Hi all

If you was gutting out a Sierra 2lt and 5 speed for a MK1 Escort transplant what other bits beside the go bit including drive shalf, electrics, clutch and go cables and rad.would you keep. Are the struts, suspension, drive train, diff, and stopping gear worth keeping. Cheers

Yep keep the brakes, much bigger than standard escort ones. If you want to go to the trouble of shortening the diff down to suit, it will be much stronger also. This will give you good ratios, bigger brakes and the opportunity to cut it down a bit more than the escort one so you can fit bigger wheels on it and keep them under the guards....like i did :P

diff does not fit - sierra's are irs. I have seen it done once and it was extremely intensive, not pretty and not advisable...

Pretty much just the engine and gearbox are all you can get from the sierra. Longer throttle cable, speedo and clutch cable from a 2L cortina will deal to the rest. Two piece auto driveshaft from an escort will fit stright up to the sierra box. If wanting a bigger radiator use a cortina one as well - still has the same mounting pattern and fits stright in.

Hi

Thanks heaps for all the input, some good points to on the diff and trans tunnel could really make the project there (do it right do it all HI) cheers. Mean while more scheming and lots more planning. Will know more in a week as the arrival of the MK1 has been delayed and seeing if the donor Sierra deal pans out which is not a must at this stage heaps of donors around and coming up.

Hi guys, i recently bought a 1968 Mk1 Escort 2 door. The car needs alot of attention. I dont know where to begin. First indicators dont work, the previous

owner damaged the front left suspension(wheel fell out), Interior is messed up, thing got a 1100cc engine 4speed box. Interesting, i found that the car uses same size pistons as 1300cc and 1600cc. Just the cranks are different.Still got one barrel Weber. But i assure you one touch of that key, the engine starts. it is so quiet you would think it's not running. I can easily get hold of a 1600cc Kent Head and a 36 Weber carb but i am not so sure about it if it's gonna fit. Suppose it should fit, but will it last? I am happy with that small stroke of the 1100 ( revs quicker) i just want the power of a 1300cc under my foot.At a later stage i am gonna fit a V6 Engine And Sierra 5sp Box but for now to get me to doing donuts will that be enough?

i have never driven a 1100 but i have a 1300 and its barely enough.... and the pistons are actuall all diffferent... that why you here people talk of putting 1100 pistons in a 1300 and 1300 pistons into a 1600....to get a higher CR.. i think it is the other way round and the cranks are all the same? and the rods and piston heads are all different between all the Xflows... why not just put a 1300 with a weber and extractors... that should go ok... and be cheap as chips

Well Im not sure about 1100's but 1300's and 1600's definately have different pistons as jerm has mentioned. And no the cranks are not all the same, the 1600 crank is alot bigger, hence the extra inch in height of the 1600 block.

If I was you, and wanting to eventually put a V6 in it, I would say, stick with the 1100 for now, put the bigger carb on it and maybe some cheap extractors (there is always some on trademe) and just enjoy that until your ready to do the V6 project. All up to you though

Welcome to Oldschool, happen to have any pictures of your car?

Well, i started the car yesterday after 3 months, 2 swings of that starter and it was idling! I decided i am gonna buy the 1600 head and the weber. Pictures , Well that is a other story. I am to embarresed to give you a picture now. I will send pictures as soon as i start working on the vehicle. I noticed when i started it up, the Brake pedal fell down to the floor, so i have to sort out brakes also. Does anyone perhaps have pictures of the 1100cc,1300cc,1600cc pistons. And i need some advice on Torque Rating for the 1600 head on the 1100?. Is it possible to work out what the compression ratio is gonna be?
