  1. My wife and I moved to the uk earlier in the year to do some traveling around the uk and Europe. So we got a campervan to travel around in, I thought I might as well make a thread for the few little mods I want to do to it and a few of the places we take it. we both love Kombi vans especially bay window t2’s, but we wanted something with a bit more room and more modern/reliable (turned out should of stuck with old and easy to fix!) anyhow we ended up getting a T5 transporter with a pop top elevating roof, it’s a 2.5 tdi 6 speed making it better for sitting on motorways doing 70-80 mph. It has two burner gas hob and sink with cold water tap/pump, roll out bed (with seatbelts so can still carry passengers legit), and a fridge. It has a lesuire battery with a split charge set up off the alternator and a 240v inverter/charger with mains plug in. heres some photos of it
  2. Good advice right there was going to say the same thing
  3. Good to see it went to a good home, look forward to seeing the 1600 xflow conversion on the wagon!
  4. Nice! really looking forward to seeing how the subby conversion goes. We had a BP wagon with the 2ltr turbo and loved it, would be a great motor to make a classic more reliable for longer out of town camping trips. will you be looking to run a Subaru gearbox or adapt to a Kombi box?
  5. just seen this thread, awesome work looks nice in that blue. cool looking bike!
  6. another two favourites spotted recently, sorry to spam your thread. if you spot any goodies online over this side of the world and need any help getting it back to you give me a bell
  7. Looking forward to following this thread, I love bay windows! Have always wanted one with a Subaru engine, we are travelling around the uk and Europe at the moment in a T5 camper, see so many sweet buses over here! Just walked past this camper in the car park.
  8. Cool ute bummer about the rust but it's really hard to find one with out it! Will be cool if you can save it and keep another one on the road!
  9. this happened!! pretty gutting as i can't find the same tyre anywhere so i am waiting on a pair of tyres with (hopefully) a similar thickness whitewall. o well at least the spare will now be a near new tread tyre. the tapped thermostat housing was a fail the temp sender just fouled the thermostat so brought a junction to go in radiator hose instead. has been pretty good being daily driven goes really well for what it is, the speedo cable has decided to play up unsure whats going on with it might just try another if i can find one
  10. haven't read your thread in awhile, awesome progress looks so good!
  11. Loving the colour! Motor looks good in the hole too, going to be one cool bug
  12. no more rattle! was such a bitch to get the alloy bush someone had made out, that i had to remove the steering column out and slide a pipe inside to bash it out. now i can get the hole for the column change filled in on the steering surround and install it.
  13. been trying to do a few little jobs on this after driving it for a few weeks, these bloody door latches are shit and slogged out with lots of play up and down and side to side so you have to dam near slam them to get it to latch, so i have dragged out my spare doors and pulled the units out of them and i was pretty stoked to find the passenger side is tight as and the drivers has minimal so might chuck them in and hopefully can adjust them up nicely now the rubbers are starting to find their shape. also I made a cradle for the stereo and mounted it under the glove box, just need to run the wiring for the speakers and finish making the new door cards to mount the speakers and get them recovered hopefully in a similar red to the seat and then get the new kick panels cover in black. have mounted twin gauges under the dash for extra piece of mind on oil pressure and water temp, i wanted to keep the dash oil light and water temp so dragged out spare thermostat housing and oil filter housing and have had them drilled to fit the new gauge fittings leaving the original sensors in place, when i dump the water to put some antifreeze in and dump the oil now the engines done a few kilometres ill swap the housings over. really need to get the new steering column bush in, I'm getting sick of the rattle!
  14. just read this build, so cool what you have done so far, these look so sweet two door! nice work
  15. looking forward to watching this beetle get done, pretty cool how the whole floor pan unbolts, what sort of kombi is on the cards for next year? i love the type two, I'm pretty keen to do one as a camper
  16. yeah i don't know what the story is but the head is round port, are the 121 boxes the same size as 626? its a pretty snug fit in the tunnel. you don't need a spare MA engine?
  17. cheers, yeah far easier to get it on the road than going down the mx5 engine route, i know the MA is a taller engine so must have a longer stroke. I'm pretty happy with how it goes, runs really good, id like to replace the gearbox with a mx5 one or get one of mine rebuilt as the one in it is a bit noisey. you don't know of anyone worth trying for a round port manifold? I'm almost thinking maybe should get some headers made.
  18. Cleaned up and painted the air cleaner and banged a new filter in it last night so handy finally being able to use it, chucked a tow bar on it also has come in handy lately with jobs on the house made a list of the little jobs to do to finish it/ make it better -cd player -redo door cards -replace steering column bush (rattles like a bitch) -pull apart door latches to see if i can get them to latch better -install temp/oil gauges also going to raise it an inch to make it ride a little bit better and so the tyres don't catch the guards
  19. got the carpet off trademe from autodec, cheers guys!
  20. fitted the carpet and under lay, looks pretty sweet it wasn't the best fit and had to trim some pieces but I'm happy for the $ gave it a wash for the first time good to get all the dust and crap from sitting around for so long, took a few snaps while the sun was out was having an issue where it ran out of fuel couple of times and had me scratching my head for awhile, but discover the fuel tank isn't breathing and creating a vacuum, when i crack the fuel cap it lets the fuel flow again so I'm not sure if the original cap had some way of venting or if it was meant to have a breather somewhere in the tank lines. one of the next jobs is to have a crack at recovering the door cards in a similar red to the seat and make some new kick panels.
