  1. man this is going to be sweet look forward to watching this one progress!
  2. hows this coming along matt? that colour looks so sweet man
  3. Sweet ute dude, look forward to following this build! theres a cool red one that gets around here still on hubcaps ect looks awesome
  4. awesome before and after photos! so impressive what you have achieved, very cool!
  5. nice job sprucing it up mate, engine bay came up looking good, i like the colour and decals looks sweet
  6. picture-less update, pretty much haven't achieved a lot on this lately, have put the pistons and crank back in with new rings, bearings and thrust washers. just getting the head back together to go back on, its been away to get planed as it had a small bow in it, tore down the spare gearbox to find a bad bearing so have replaced that and its ready to go back together also thinking of putting the internals in the housings of the gearbox in the ute already cleaned up. hopefully have it on the road shortly!
  7. got the 1800 block back from the machine shop today its had a dip and hone, also got them to have a measure up to make sure its all-good to go, its still standard bore size and pistons are still good. few gaskets and some new rings, to give it a bit of a birthday. hopefully have the rest of the bits next week and start piecing it back together, also pulled the spare gearbox to bits to check it over, glad i did as one of the bearings had given way on the secondary shaft.
  8. yeah you are most likely right i have a spare gearbox so may clean it up and pull it to bits and replace bearing so no chance of same happening again
  9. i thought i had it correct as firing order is 1-3-4-2? it does run fine but is smokey
  10. awesome progress man, such a cool conversion
  11. so i have removed most of the un-needed wiring in this, then re-wired to suit the piston motor, also replaced the oil pressure sender and water temp sender and found the wiring to suit. then hooked up all the cooling system with new hose and clamps and filled it up, finished hooking up the fuel line. so then i fired it up after getting the timing sorted, it runs quite nicely... but it smokes like a bitch…. pretty gutted and something is not right in the clutch department, have a strange noise until i press the clutch, don't know whats going on in there everything is new. but i did find it must have a different clutch fork as it doesn't line up with the slave and puts the pin on a weird angle. but its looking like motor and box back out. tossing up wether to give the VC 1800cc motor a freshen up and use that instead and try find out what the heck that noise is in the clutch area. the gearbox has been leaking from the joins in the housings too so i might use another box or pull that one to bits and re seal it. also the gearbox is just fouling the tunnel when it shakes so might be easier to re-shape the hole and hammer a bit more clearance with the box out anyway. bummer more work to do yet
  12. cheers spencer, duh its the output wire my bad wasn't thinking. it already had a 60 amp fuse in the wiring and its a 40amp output alternator
  13. sweet cheers man, like a 10 amp fuse do the trick?
  14. going from a external to internal regulated alternator, I'm wiring up the new alt and it has 3 terminals R and L on the plug and B+ stud, i found this image on the net just wanted to check it was right. should the b+ have constant power straight from the battery? or just when the ignition is on?
  15. hope you get a decent pay out, and find something cool to replace it with
  16. been tackling the wiring in this to remove all the un-needed wires from the rotary conversion and to track down the original wires for the water temp and oil pressure, workshop manual came in handy to help locate them, pretty nice job the previous owner has done on the loom and new fuse box ect, will finish running them where they need to go and wrap it back up, for some reason the fuel pump won't go when its wired into the loom but i hard wired it to the battery to run the engine briefly was good to hear it run after all this time getting close now, next job after the wiring is make a new clutch hard line as the lines to short to reach the new hose with the clutch back in the piston engine position, then hopefully test drive this week sometime.
  17. thanks man, looking forward to getting it on the road now. yeah i quite like it its cool little car
  18. headlights turned up last night, fitted one side to see how they look, had to modify the inner buckets to get them to sit in properly but i think they look all good looking forward to getting these put on next week!
  19. dory72- no worries, i used those eze strip discs on a 125mm grinder just being careful not too put too much heat in the panels and warp it. very messy and time consuming! Minime- i decided to have a crack at it myself fingers crossed i don't mess it up!
  20. its been a couple months since i have actually done anything to this, but after spending a couple weeks on holiday Im getting back into it, have got a carb kit and have pulled to bits my spare carb to re-kit it and will keep the one that was running on the engine aside incase i cock it up! Im hoping to get it running in the next couple of weeks just need to sort some wiring for coil/dizzy and suss out a fuel line from the hard pipe to carb. also i have ordered some semi-sealed headlights to replace the crappy sealed beams that have blown, will be good to run some decent h4 bulbs, hopefully they will turn up from oz next week. going to order some door rubbers off ebay as I'm sick of the doors rattling around in the latches! heres some photos of the carb partly cleaned up, tricky little buggers with fiddly little pieces, my first time pulling one to bits
  21. look forward to seeing what you do with this!
  22. Yeah i think i may just do that, cheers
