  1. Episode 3: Progress is Made Last weekend we made a start on this thing. Idea is to make a trailer that is actually usable for day to day stuff from this b-train, and sell it once jobs are done for project moneys.(or keep it). Either way, its too big for anything but towing a blimp, and we havnt got one. We started by ripping off all the shitty ply to see how rusty it actually it and what we would be working with. It turns out its not really rusty at all. Everything is intact and working (apart from lights and tyres are perished). Its just BIG Dr Euro-wees preparing the precision instruments After much whiteboarding, engineering calculations and focus groups we decided to chop the front and end sections off. Then cut the drawbar off the front and weld it back on: stackin dimes Trailer is now towable again, and is no better or worse than when we started, just smaller. Its about 3.65m tray which will fit most small cars. Plan is to use the scrap to strengthen the bed a bit, (where the car wheels will go) add a low side frame (leaving the existing box framing) and a front and rear tailgate that can be used as ramps and see how we go from there This episodes costs: 7 hours each 10x pack cutting discs 1x box Wild Buck, 1x 1.5l Mountain Dew and 3x Pita Pits 1x garage fuse, 1x grinder lead.
  2. Episode 2: Story as far as i can recall, is that it is/was the trailer for the More FM blimp, and it won sign of the year in 1992. Trailer box is 5.8m in length and 2.2m wide, 1.65 between the wheel arches a,d about 2.5m in height internally. Its MASSHUUUVE We went and picked it up last weekend, and after about 2 hours of faffing around, removing the rear doors pumping tyres and whatnot towed it via the long back roads way to Chez-Grant from its last 10 years or so resting location. Towed sweet, no trouble no fuss, once the flatspots in the tyres smoothed out. Total Cost to date: ~3 hours $20.80 ($5 crow bar, $10 sledge and $5.80 sabre saw blade) To Pay: 1x bottle of Bourbon purchase price
  3. Episode 1: Ive been looking for a trailer to do a couple of jobs with. (strip croma, do scrap run, do dump run etc), but holey shit, they go for more than i imagined on trade me. Far more than I wanted to pay for a couple of weekends jobs. Then, Chris sent me a txt. oh-oh. After some discussion we decided screw it, if its fucked we will take it to the scrappy ourselves, if not Winning! Forthwith, here is the tale of our winningness (and scappies, probably)
  4. http://www.midwest-bayless.com/storefrontprofiles/DeluxeSFItemDetail.aspx?sid=1&sfid=208227&c=192675&i=310566604 the housing comes in a few flavours (different angles and number of tapped holes for sensors depending on fwd/rwd and age) but they all have the same bolt holes/gaskets im pretty sure, 2l may be different? the one in that link doesnt say for 2l, but im pretty sure i swapped the one from my old 1608 onto my 1995
  5. yeah, exhaust has two mufflers, one big one small - big one is not straight through (and taps on the driveshaft sometimes) will replace with bits from croma soon. has good induction noise tho! stink about the housing, i dont think i have a spare, as i swapped the one off my 1608 to the 1995cc, will have to have a lookey.
  6. mean. im sunburnt, car went great.and I have a sore go-pedal foot. thanks uncle rod! (i wish)
  7. Bring Over Another Thousand also, awesome (but only vicariously)
  8. fanx man i feel like im gonna jinx it if i get too chuffed that its seemingly all sorted. Im sure i will have to fix it again, then fling it around turns, fucking idiot assembled this funny italian attempted technology?
  9. Took the car to get a wheel alighnment done the day of BF meet, which was all good (guy was very complementary, also mentioed it is also very straight) but car started missing on the motorway commute back home to pick up the family.and had to stop for a fiddle a few times, and at home but couldnt solve it. Was not running very well to or from BF either, nearly had another solo meet at Henderson, but kept rolling. Feels like the miss that ive always had right at the top end was getting more random and slowly moving moving down the rev range. New fuel regulator guage says no, fuel pressure fine (2.5-3.5 psi) Next culprit, Spark. Ohoh, thats not supposed to be there - oil must have wicked up the dizzy shaft, and started messing with the Pertronix sensor. Must be time for full electronic dizzy time! Ive been meaning to do this for a while, and had been collecting bits, just missing the 'special' dizzy to HEI module cable. (2 tiny female spades on dizzy to 1 normal and one middle size spade on module) These were as fitted to Lancia Betas i think, and came with the big pile of parts that came with the first 2L engine i got. I spent the day making 1 good dizzy from the three i have (Bosch Z44), it has a reluctor instead of points, still with a mechanical advance, and is the same overall size as the old points one ive been using for ever and is much more modern (date stamp says 78, vs 68 for the old one): L: Magetti Marelli S144 with Pertronix kit, R: Bosch Z44 with reluctor and homemade cable this then runs to a GM style "Hi performance" Acell HEI that sits on the special heat sink thiing under the Magnetti Marelli coil (sorry its such a terrible pic - wiring in that corner is also terrible). After getting the static timing close, it fired up into a steady idle straight away Only issue is the Tach is a bit lazy now? Run to Coffee and Classics <link> and then the long way home it went super duper awesome. Then rebled the brakes (finally got the bubble out that was making it spongy, and yay still no leaks from rear brakes!), tightened the handbrake, adusted clutch cable checked diff oil (not low but gone manky - water ingress?) gbox oil (drained a bit as it was a touch overfull, but very clean and no leaks) put in gbox reverse switch, new front wheel bearing caps, and swapped tyres round and fitted center bore locating rings. All set for Leadfoot THEN DRAGS Have an egine bay pic since im finally actually happy with how its running!
  10. stopped for breakky on the way so was a bit late looks like this one was getting ready for a mural on the back so many 80s cylinders cool beetle dat ass i couldnt look away. these wheels and brakes and this engine bay. blEUG GT indeed! rinse my eyes out
  11. I resent your implication, mainly the one that the BT Xtreeem Teem could be on time(ish) to anything
  12. took the fiat for a drive to test out the new shocks, with Chris and Tara 300km round trip for pizza and a walk on the beach They are on full soft, and while a wee bit stiffer than the KYBs are less bouncy, yet firmer, and were well tested on a range of road surfaces. Rally test Instagram that shit copilot hardparking in the weeds Defintly need a wheel alignment and to bleed the brakes again. Engine is still great - oil is still clean and clear and havnt topped it up once since building it
  13. nice, a twink should help you get stuck that much faster i got one of those wee hoses from Mal for my 2l, it was a bit more than i thought was reasonable (i think $30ish incl postage - will check) but genuine, and i needed it NOW. I think it is called "PCV Hose, Short" or ' Engine Vent Hose' and there are a few sizes (in and out diameter) depending on your block. Like tom said plenty of engine parts around, plenty of performance improvements can be done and most parts are cheap, even in nz
  14. not much going on with this, its been very reliable so not really driven it anywhere got a new project, even getting a bit of help with this one, putting on the WL + pinstripe heaps of low speed fun. just needs a front brake cable. The new engine has been great, no leaks or oil consumption. Fixed a small split in vac hose. Have also changed the carb jetting, bit richer idle (no popping out the carbs now) and leaner main, with a slightly larger main air. Plugs are a nice brown now, not black. Fuel flow is still an issue, next job is electric pump. I also had to swap the rear brakes off again for major piston leaks, hopefully i get 3rd time lucky If they leak again I will start the conversion to the Croma brakes, which is still just sitting on the lawn. I need to buy a trailer. Anyway while im bleeding the fronts, may as well swap the KYBs for nice new Konis road test
  15. keen. BT Xtreeme teem sure loves us some burgers
  16. was good. here are those same red cars, and a few of europes finest i think this is for sale - looks good This thing was very nice party in the front business in the back
  17. Copper is lower resistance and able to transfer more of the electrical energy from weaker/older/smaller ingition systems to the combustion chamber. Higher resistance modern spark leads are primarily to reduce EMF (noise in the radio and other electronics), offset by more powerful/efficient ignition systems or something.
  18. Just weld it together again with the correct colour zip ties
