  1. wideband will probably read pretty weird on an oil burning two stroke?
  2. Yeah nick Ritchie got the pipe made by the same guy as me, interesting about the muffler and power band smoothing, might have to give it a go, Mines geared down aswell as a 17" wheel conversion, so when your cruising along you can crack it into the power band and it really jumps forward. Not a bad thing persay but I'm interested to see how it would ride with that smoothed out a little
  3. Massive Yes to cycle car. Just don't take 5 years to finish it like I am!
  4. what does your pipe sound like with the muffler? i have the same bike/pipe (pretty sure built by the same dude even) and run it unsilenced, while i dont mind the volume and the wide bearth people give me now. im curious to know what it sounds like with a muffler
  5. called it. but yeah, cheers for adding weight to my statement, it does happen! ive spent longer than 15 mins in a burger king drive thru. i remember because i spent the whole time watching my temp gauge rise. pretty sure i nearly cooked the old motor that day
  6. yes i am. i assume you got that time there from the list UC give their students for workshop hours? my temp fitting job got pulled from me the day before xmas, and the uc student there was kind enough to give me that spreadsheet of contact details and managed to get some work there, pretty bloody fun! temp at the moment but fingers crossed i can make it long term or permanent! and yes im pretty keen to get it finished, the corona is also more or less ready for cert to this is one of the only automotive projects ive got going at the moment! heres the other car im working on and carrying motivation over from it got crashed into and the tub looked like this when i started on it and ive gotten it to this point. panels beyond repair stripped off, and just set it away on friday to have the fixable parts massaged back straight and then ill remake the fubard parts and reassemble. it plays right into my aircraft training being that its all solid rivited alloy sheets. I am pretty embarrassed by the absolute disparity of workmanship between the two cars, but i guess thats what happens when you have scrap steel and an angle grinder on one car and a fully equipped workshop on another! but im hoping that the exterior body will be onpar quality wise as theres nothing i need that i dont have at home also i have to keep in mind one is a full blown racecar and one is a toy!
  7. the one thing that stopped me from going down this path you are looking at, and led me to get that little OLED screen monitor, was that have you actually tried to read a tablet in sunlight? its either shining the sun in your face or just pure glare. or put it down low out of the light and youll just see a reflection of your interior.
  8. I bought a little 10 in 1 display from just race parts in aussie and it shows everything you'd really need to know on the fly, with programable alarms and the option for one big idiot light too. https://www.justraceparts.com.au/10in1-automotive-digital-oled-multi-gauge-display Gotta get the control unit and sensors too, all up was 240nzd shipped. I've not fully installed it yet but I'm pretty happy with it so far
  9. That's really only an issue with boosted cars. How much lag would there be with a 3-4m reference line to the fpr?
  10. I was very close to running a returnless system as testament mentions, a few websites scared me off the idea but since I've been working on race cars for a few months, a lot of them run it and are running 600+ hp. I also dont recommend putting a t piece in the supply to the pump, you'll recycle the fuel heating it more and more each time until one day it'll vapor lock and be a cunt to figure out What I did end up doing was running my original supply line as the return, and drilling a hole and fitting a bulkhead an connector to an external pump and new supply line. Now I'm not saying this is the right way to do things either but it was very easy and seems to work alright. I didn't put a lot of effort in as I'm likely to fit an ally drop tank and surge tank setup at some point in the future
  11. lol with build quality like that youll have the council knocking on your door for a non consented sleepout good work!
  12. today i ordered a super long (2200mm) brake line from aliexpress for $6nzd and a master cylinder for $10. already have a brake disk and caliper. hopefully the single pot will be enough to stop the whole car, but i may end up upgrading to a 2pot from a big scooter for some more stopping power. i want to be able to lock the rear wheels up and wheel the thing around cones and such! also half pie on the lookout for some aluminium sheet that i can use to make my body if anyone knows of something kicking around?
  13. You could definitely get that shit for free. Especially since the wasted spark setup came on base spec imprezzas with turbo ones getting coil packs. Hell I'll give you one of my spare ignitors for free. On another note. My engine and tuning seems to be going well, but I've noticed that if I'm being lazy and turning the engine on to move the car in and out of the shed it'll fowl one or two plugs and run like balls untill I clean them or sometimes drive around enough that it clears up. Where do I look to fix this? It's not showing rich at idle (though could be from blipping throttle to move in and out) Hotter plugs? Tuning? Something to do with the blower?
  14. You've clearly made your mind up. And your making the same errors others including myself already have
  15. There is no valid reason for not putting coil packs on it. Either build a concours car and put the carb back on or install modern computer ignition and reap the benefits of an old car with modern reliability.
  16. diyautotune is the approved and original seller. ebay carries risks of fakes ect, and genuine stuff will be more expensive anyway due to ticket clipping
  17. take it from me, i have actualy had my ecu running through my locked dizzy, and even triggered it off the points. it works it also fucking sucks. leave the dizzy there (or chop it down and make it look nice) as the pump needs the drive, but ditch that shit and go to pick a part and rob the coil and ignitor from a subi imprezza. wasted spark setup in one coilpack. 2nd hand is fine, just check the odo and make sure it hasnt done 500,000kms currently i have a trigger wheel hidden inside my dizzy, it works fine, but i am going to switch to a proper crank trigger, as precise timing is more crucial with un intercooled boost!
  18. well i scored a pretty sweet gig working on old classis race cars. unsure how long the work will last but making the most of it as i go, playing with the likes or formula fords, formula f5000s, atlantics and a whole host of other very serious circuit cars. problem is it has made my want for a race car extremtly high, and now i would really love a small formula car. thats not gonna happen any time soon (though i may one day build a formula ford style car with significantly better practices that this heap of shit) regaurdless ive forced the want for a racecar into motivation to finish this. so after toying with the idea of turfing suspension i did just that, welded the whole deal solid and im pretty happy with that decision, its not a race car i doubt itll be an issue, but given that the next step in suspension was to strip it all back and put proper double wishbones on, if solid doesnt work well, i can do just that. welded the mount of the steering box on, just need a ubolt to hold the top onto its bracket. Things to do mount seat mount pedals setup shifter and linkages accelerator / brake / clutch cables fuel system wire engine up sort out drive from axle to wheel hubs build the body (the fun part and the whole reason i even started this project) will be a mixture of alloy sheet and solid rivets and fibreglass sort out a rollbar so i dont die. fit tubes (the tires are very squished so ridehight will increase, and the rake will come back somewhat level but still raked backwards which i quite like) please note none of the wheels have bushes in so are all a bit on the piss, and the rear axle isnt central. and the reason i never work on this heap. i have to stash it under my shelving to fit it in my garage. even when its finished itll have to live under here quick/bad MS paint job of how i see the body taking shape, considering the mclaren livery. hopefully thats not too offensive on such a shitty car???
  19. Unsure how similar it is. But with my father's z18et Nissan gazelle, that we put an s14 sr20det in, we used 35mm offset engine mount rubbers from a volvo 240gl and the whole affair was a bolt in deal, gearbox xmember bolted up. And the drive shaft fits fine. I don't remember if we used the gazelle or the silvia shafts, pretty sure it was the gazelle one.
  20. @downtrail can probably help. but i imagine hes close his shop up over the break period
