  1. so i may be back on track, put the oil in the oil bottle and just petrol in the tank, put in a clean spark plug and fired it up and it runs alot better, it revs up but is smokey as hell, i suspect that there is alot of unburnt oil in the engine as the plug that came out was soaked.
  2. had a look at the intake manifold and it looks ok, where else could it leak? also could running premix on and auto mix engine cause issues like this?
  3. sat the bike up on an angle so the engine was flat, still very hard to start/wont start and wont go past its rough as idle
  4. nope but thanks for the point of interest. ill take a look at it at some point. not sure why there would be a sudden leak. im pretty sure its something to do with tilting the angle up, as it use to run horizontally
  5. was sitting for about 2-3 weeks. i took the air filter off so you can see the carb in the pics. dosn't make a difference. however when the engine was in the cart. taking the filter off had the same effect as it has now minus the starting issues. and its got an electric choke,
  6. So im building a scooter out of a bike frame i had built when i was younger, and a 50cc full frame scooter engine. i've got the engine mounted in really nicely and made up a sprocket to go from scooter axle to bike chain/rear gears. now i've run into a problem where when i start the engine (sometimes hard) it will idle really lumpy and wont rev at all, no matter where the throttle is. in fact if i open the throttle up it starts to kill the engine. then it will die and wont restart for another 10 minutes or so. i have a feeling this might be to do with the angle the carb is on, but ive positioned the bike so the carb is flat and it dosn't seem to fix it. I really want to get the engine running smooth before i start on setting up the gears and tanks etc.. Bit of info about the project. im in need of a cheaper way to get around and to my course this year and i had this engine in a little grass cart i built. the engine runs extremely well and although its a Chinese motor. i constantly had it on the rev limiter while drifting on grass and it was more than happy to cope. i plan on linking the engines output (with its centrifugal clutch, to the rear gear system from a mountain bike, giving me a 5,6 or 7spd scooter, depending on what wheel i go with. should in theory be good for skids in low gear and have a decent top speed in high gear. I built the frame when i was about 10. and thus will, im sure, need welding properly and please pay no attention to the terrible welds that are on it currently that where done with my fathers arc welder with the wrong sticks. these will be redone with my new mig welder.
  7. Thanks for all this, Incredibly useful as im planing on doing all the body work on my corona myself, got a paint and panel mate so he should be some small bit of help
  8. Not exactly a factory finish, but i got my family friend auto upholster to cover my dash in black auto carpet, the same thats on my back parcel tray and the same that will go onto the floors, imo looks pretty decent as the whole car will match with seats and doors in black vinyl, cost me $20 for the dash so even if i decide to change i don't mind.
  9. that is so freaking sweet, makes me wish i was doing this rather than just a boring 50cc scooter engine on my similar ish (not really) project, popping flames at night would look so sweet
  10. Sweet as man thanks for the confirmation, Where did you get your adapter from? is it one from philspeed on trademe? Currently im modifying the heatsheild to accept the weber as i could see no reason why this wont work, and have read on the internet, others have done this with good results
  11. build thread/pics? hardly ever keen on cross breeding engine/bodys but it sounds like your doing a good job and it sounds like its gonna look great.
  12. ahh yes i guessed this would be the case. my final question is. will the adapter NEED two circles or will an oval be okay also? im unsure what the effect of the open area in the middle would be but my guess would be negative, creating weird pressures etc.. but the manifold has an oval anyway... Thanks for all your help
  13. well i dont have a die grinder, would a dremel do the trick? however what do you mean by blend the sides? other than that i should be pretty sweet to make something up. Thanks
  14. Do you think Palmside would sell decent adapters? i've read a lot about people using Redline Weber adapters but cant find them anywhere, not even on Redlines website, if not. where would i get the materials and how would i go about making a decent adapter? i don't want any performance gains to be lost due to crappy fitting...
  15. For the 18r the jets need to be Mains primary: 140 secondary: 150 Air Correctors primary: 165 secondary: 160 Anyone got some of these laying around? or how much are they to buy, and where from?
  16. My car has a heat shield and was considering using that to make an adapter out of, good idea? yes/no? i can get pics if i dont make any sense
  17. Yeah saw that. well i will eventually get it hooked up and ill try to document it and do somewhat of a write up, ive heard good things about these carbs
  18. out of curiosity, what sort of gains did you get on the 21r?
  19. Not sure if ill use an adapter or modify to suit, would ideally like to revert back to stock if need be so may be an adapter, thought i have heard they can be a bit crap. and ive sourced info on the correct jets. i did wonder about the factory linkage being usable. and i guess fuel cant be too hard to hook up, could just use some rubber fuel line.
  20. reading material is always awesome, Thanks!
  21. I have a weber 32/36 and was wondering if any of you guys have ever put one on a Toyota 18r engine. and would have any info on hooking up the throttle and fuel line and any other stuff that needs doing? I'm new to carb swapping but have read that the 32/36 is a good upgrade.
  22. if your getting rims powder coated, i have a set nearly ready, that needs to be painted, might bring the price down?
  23. yeah man, i've PMd Voldo/Rob but hes a busy man i was talking about blue ones to him and he didn't mention they don't exist
  24. Due to work again! i cannot come any chance at all of blue stickers? if not would it be possible to pick a couple up some other time?
