  1. I would happily pay twice as much if it meant I didn't have to go near a wire wheel/chemical bath.
  2. That's a hard question to answer. In a drift car owned by someone who wouldn't know what good oil was if it smacked them in the face - probably about 10 hp. In a track car that gets used but not abused I would say easily 200 engine horseys. Infact. This dyno sheet is from a car with a T50. It has a TRD gearset but it proves my point. 150kW at the wheels
  3. What prep work needs to be done to your fasteners before dropping them off at one of these big commercial electroplaters? Can you just throw all your old rusty, greasy, covered in paint and silicone seatant bolts into a box and take them there? Or do you need to clean and wire wheel all of the old plating off first?
  4. I asked the dude with the N2 AE86 replica where he got his done. He got it done at Forlong and Maisey in Hamilton. The other suggestion was Rigg Electroplating on the Shore. Here is where i asked: http://www.aeu86.org/viewtopic/ae86/t/6171/postdays=0/postorder=asc/start=350
  5. Ill bring a length of rope and a hammer. The rope so we can tie it to a pole and fix most of the damage. The hammer to do the 'fine adjustments' haha don't care about the dent, its the bent axle thats bugging me The same technique applies.

  7. Heh. My racecar has a 5.3 in it. Got revs?
  8. Taken out of context this is quite funny It was completely unintentional. Promise
  9. Glenn Innes isn't optimal for me sorry. Snoozin or wrcbfmr are probably better bets.
  10. Who else is staying in the dog section aside from you Tara?
  11. Do you mean soft as in under damped? Or soft as in a soft spring rate?
  12. Where in Auckland is it? I'm sure there's a number of us that could store it for you. We might be able to save the guy some driving if we know where he is.
  13. Apparently the alternator has been checked and is good. It wouldn't hurt to pull it out and check it yourself though. Unless you have a wiring fault then I'm struggling to see how it can be anything other than a faulty alternator. I take it you tried that other regulator that I gave you?
  14. Both. The diff and the body have a smaller spring perch. Edit: nope. this is wrong. I thought that most KE70's had the smaller setup?
  15. Al, the HSD stuff uses an inverted montotube damper as opposed to the D2/BC/other cheap chinese stuff which don't. So they're stronger, which isn't a bad thing when you see some of the photos of snapped and sheared shocks from the other brands. They also some with RCAs which saves you having to buy them seperately. From the research I've done it looks like the order of preference for AE/KE coilovers are: D2/BC HSD Greddy Custom (and I guess T3 ones come in to this category too assuming you get them with decent shocks) There are also these that have popped up on the tard recently. I'd be interested to know what people think of them.
  16. To get my AE86 out I need to go down to my shed, push a ke30 (with sticky brakes) out of the way of the roller door, take 86 out, put silvia in, and then push the ke30 back into the right place. Too much effort for my liking. And then I have to risk the natives nicking it while we're in the pub. Having said that, it is far more legal than the silvia. We shall see. Come for a beer anyway.
  17. If its rust appearing from near seams, even if you can get rid of the rust without going through the metal, you are likey still going to have rust festering in the seam itself. In this case you're going to need to split the seam and chop the rotten bits out. Often you will find the rust is coming through from the back so even if it looks like a small bubble from the outside be prepared to have it explode into a large hole once you hit it with a grinder. One thing to note is don't stop grinding/cutting until you have removed all traces of rust. Even then its a good idea to use some rust kill around the surrounding area.
  18. Are you after guides about cutting out rust and welding new metal in? Or more along the lines of rust prevention and bog jobs? There's an excellent thread that's on retrorides where a guy goes through the process of forming metal repair panels. He goes through what tools to use and everything. I'll dig it up for you if you're interested. Edit: should have read the rest of this thread. beaten to it. the original thread is definitely worth reading through if you have some time.
  19. What's wrong with it? Holla if you want a hand with anything.
  20. I'd really like to go and watch the ACJS racing on the 27th or whatever it is. Not fussed about the other two dates.
