  1. So got down to a bit more work on the engine today. Was hoping to reassemble it today but after cleaning the block down, honing the cylinders and measuring the piston ring gaps i came to a halt as i found out that the piston rings are bloody wrong damn you ACL! haha gonna go return them tomorrow and hope they give me the right ones this time. grr And some pics.. Cylinders before After Third cylinder has had some previous damage from water leakage And i picked up some HKS gauges for cheapies of tardme Boost, water temp, oil temp. Peace
  2. Any Fabrication or engine work.. Tony Lynch - Lynchbuilt Engineering/Fabricating (09) 426-3151 Hes a GC with about 40+ years under his belt. got any problem and he will sort you with a good price. Hes based up in Dairyflat/Waitoki
  3. Heres some pics project discussion http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=21682 Edit: Was in a rush so i didnt take any pics of the reconditioned head Chur
  4. Damn forgot to take pictures again yesterday... Anyway, ive now completely assembled the reconditioned head and set the valve tappets. Also i will be re-boring the cylinders and assembling the engine in two weeks. Meanwhile i picked up full-time work for the holidays so will have a bit of coin to purchase some goods in a few. Shits finally coming together hopefully will have the thing running in a month! Peace Edit: Forgot to mention i hit up pick-a-part on Saturday and unfortunately the Mirage the i salvaged some bits off a while ago isnt there anymore and didnt have the correct socket to remove the hub nut to nick some bits from the next gen mirage. will probably go again soon with more tools .
  5. woops found some old pics that i forgot to upload the colour of the rocker cover is alot brighter (refer to the colour of the rims). enjoy :albino:
  6. Its been a long time since i last updated this thread so its about time i make a post (sorry ive got no pics).. Been slowly gathering bits and pieces and started reconditioning and rebuilding the engine with the help of Tony Lynch. Ive only been able to work on the engine once every second week or so for a few hours when Tony's been available so progress has been very slow but good, learned alot of new things aswell. currently i have completely stripped the engine down and have been reconditioning the head. All the valves have had the carbon cleaned off and the seats ground and refitted with new guides. Here's a list of parts ive collected over time... -Complete set of seals and gaskets -water pump -ngk sparkplugs and leads -premium chrome plated piston rings -2.5" coby Resonator and Muffler -Td04l turbo -hks ssqv bov Also picked up some dash bits and pieces from pick-a-part including a dashcluster & surround, heater controls & clock and a window wiper delay module haha + a rear bumper. Ive also had the crankshaft ground back and got a new set of bearings to go, also thanks to 'Southern hardstyle' ive got a set of 14x6" 2 piece Hoshino Impul's that ive cleaned and repainted the same colour as the rocker cover minus the prizmatique stz. In other news.. at unitec last week i checked the rear drums and wheel bearings, all in good nick plus the old grease has been removed and replaced but unfortunately when i was tightening the handbrake cable, the thread snapped and now ive gotta go hit up pick-a-part to find a replacement cable and a few weeks before that the stainless steel capping on the front bumper flew off on the motorway by the taka on/off ramp. Luckily my mate picked up for me and it was still in good condition minus a few little scratches. Ill make sure i bring the camera this weekend as i will be working on the engine and will upload some pics. Chur
  7. Hey mate, been following your build since that start. Amazing work really and also a good read just like your rotavette and rx3 builds. Reminds me heaps of the house my mum n dad built in Whitianga that i was raised in (had the woodburner stove and stained glass windows etc aswell + my dads handcrafted furniture). Keep up the hard work, cant wait to see it finished! Chur
  8. woops just read over your post and realised that youve already clarified that the injector isnt spraying fuel. my bad
  9. dunno if this helps but with the engine running hold a metal rod(or screwdriver) up to the injector housing and listen for a constant ticking noise. do this to each injector(think theres 2 from memory). this should help you clarify if the injector/s are playing up eg if theres no ticking or an irregular sounding tick
  10. What is this? its bloody brilliant! looks like a kp60/323/datto. thats so fucking mint!
  11. damn that sucks. would a black top ecu be compatible?
  12. ok so my mate wants me to install some ramtubes on his levin. i thought it was as straight forward as removing the plenum and induction assembly then bolt em straight on but completely forgot about the airflow meter sensor. Im sure many of you have done this mod before and would be able to help me out by telling me how to overcome this problem. Will he need a custom ecu or need to get it retuned or whatever? cheers
  13. which burgerfuel and what time ya reckon? if its around lunchtime i might come during unitec lunch break or after my last class (around 3pm)
  14. cheers for the correction yowzer. didnt realise the amp was for component speakers until after i posted that comment. second week into autotronics at unitech atm so am just starting to learn about all of that electrical bs hehe
  15. its ur decision mate. i got the 1400w 2 channel version of that panasonic one which runs my 1000w 12" rockford fosgate sub brilliantly, so i would assume that 4 channel would run those components pretty choice. not an expert tho
  16. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-stereos/Amplifiers/4-channel/auction-289495579.htm worth checking this out, a lil bit darer but theyre pretty sweet
  17. Please do not buy one of those v12 amps. got a few mates who have tried em out in the past, they work well apart from the fact that they keep on cutting out when u turn up the bass. tbh they dont work well at all. just stay well away from em
  18. so apparently repco doesnt keep the wheel spacers in stock and cant order til monday, supercheap dont even sell em and me having the flu making me really cbf looking anywhere else, i purchased a pair of 3mm spacers for the rear for $45.95 including shipping. hopefully they will do the job, otherwise ill return them and get a pair of 7mm.
  19. Im sorry i dont live up to your standards uterus but to be honest, i dont really care. Im only 17 and still have much to learn. Would of been mint to keep classic and in premo condition but seeing as it technically is my first car im bound to play around with it. I have little experience when it comes to can bombing and i didnt have a compressor/spray gun kit at the time. with the help of my mate we were really quite amazed at how well it came out , ashame i didnt prep it well enough (which caused it to flake in areas after about 7 months) and miss use of engine degreaser which has stripped areas of paint. I really wanted to go for some more oldschool dished rims, maybe of mesh design but these wheels came up with what i believe was a pretty good price considering how much trademe browsing i had done and seeing as i had the money at the time. They look a lot better compared to what i had on before though, Alot better . After i get the damn thing lowered i think it will look hellovalot better so all goods. Really want to pick up a minter with the supershifter one day, had a jam on my mates and was amazed out how fun it was to drive compared to my standard 4 speed transmission. Yo Tim i remember you telling me bout your brothers rage with the black reflexes, completely forgot about it until just now actually. tis pretty buzzy. anychance you got any pics of it hiddin somewhre? keen to have a gander ! churr
  20. ok so i sorted the tacho a few weeks back and now its working perfectly but with the after market needle. forgot to take some pics, ill try get some up soon. I started pulling the engine to bits and took some pictures of the internals which look pretty sweet. got some valve adjusting to do but only minor adjustments nee to be made. (will get some pictures of the block n pistons up when i can but these will do for the mean time ) Then picked up this badboy last Wednesday at lunch for only 40bux, pretty mint condition with only a few bent fins... had all the extra mounting components on which i ripped off then i gave it a quick sand down and clean. will probably get it painted black sometime soon. And I then picked up these 15" ROH Reflexes that afternoon for only $350 including tyres, all of which have decent tread except one which is pretty worn. Notice how It sits awfully high? i'll be investing in a set of lowering springs when i get the money together. the only negative is that one of the wheels scrapes on the struts so im picking up a set of spacers 2mro morning to get it sorted oh also picking up an engine stand, compressor and paint gun set next week then im going to start practicing my painting. hopefully my dads mate (professional panelbeater & welder) can offer me some lessons any1 got a colour in mind? originally i was thinking of gloss black with either a dark red or orange pearl but now ive been thinking about a high gloss babyl blue or tangelo orange? any suggestions would be much appreciated choice as!
  21. Quick update, in the process of converting the bits n pieces of the aftermarket tacho into the stock tacho to get it functioning. will post pictures up shortly.
  22. yea will most likely be keeping it for a few more years and get it all sussed out and looking brand new. wow, was unaware of how many cars actually had a 4g37, thought it was only the cordias and tredias. my bad! well ill just stick to the g32bt for the moment but may eventually upgrade to the g37. Is there anywhere that sells 4g32bt exhaust manifolds or would i need one to get custom made for it? thanks
