  1. Nah will be 1600 OHV, maybe 1725 that would be bonus..
  2. That was me was having a laugh about his "enthusiasts dream" comment, more like nightmare I thought. Cool project tho, glad it's been saved, I don't think it looks too bad, the bonnets all go rusty as they are a triple layer of rolled shit that rusted from new- so 90% are bogged and judging by the lack of bog falling out in the photos, should be alright bodily. Hit it with the waterblaster and it should be like a new car
  3. Blocked jet, strip carb, clean and go
  4. Awesome! Know a guy with Lloyd part's if ya need anything, He also has a wagon version that I may just snap up..
  5. Are all the hif44's suited to boost? Yep, generally, there was no difference between standard metro and turbo one but needle profile. Joker, draw through turbos work well, for a while.. Carbon seals and fuel dont mix too well, also blow-through SU is pretty much the simplest way to go + tried and tested
  6. You need an HIF44 off a metro dude, anything else wont work at all. True story, any Metro will have one, then change needle using the old one as a base then going thinner till you eliminate flatspots. Use one of the many online calculators to eliminate guesswork with needles and it will work a lot better than rolling road plus cheaper.
  7. Just read this thread start to finish. you need to start again and go through the basics, remove plugs and dry engine out thoroughly, make sure the float does that- float. Often overlooked and would cause your said faults, you say you have cleaned your fuel system out with meths? You 100% sure you got it all out the system? Checked for water in the fuel? Set timing static by turning dizzy till points just open, check firing order by removing rocker cover and making sure it is timed to no1 on firing stroke, ie the inlet valve on 1 has just closed, check valve clearances whilst there and firing order of leads. Make sure needle is firmly seated and wind jet down to 1mm below the bridge to begin with. Pre warm plugs on gas cooker or with blowtorch and bang- if it doesn't go i'll eat my own poo.
  8. Do not listen to anyone who say's a Pinto is a good idea, let alone an easy swap.. Put a side draft 38 or 40 carb on, plane head, fit roller rockers if funds allow and cam it up. Should be one quick 1300, I should know- I used to run one in a mk2 years ago and I tuned it up owing to it having only 1200-k's from new and been too good to throw away. 1600 is the best bet for starting on tbh but the 1300 will rev harder, so lightening the flywheel and balancing would also be a good idea. Oh and extractors of course and a coby, every escort needs a coby
  9. 1 3/4 inch SU off a Metro or similar makes basically the same power, and a lot easier to tune and cheaper to buy/run. Fact. Also, less likely to be worn in the spindles and rounded off screw's, bent linkages etc like most S/H SU kit's. Twin carb's do look sweet tho
  10. Hey mate, sorry I was going to reply but you know how thing's are... Walked around the Nissan bit for a while last week and couldn't see one, just Pulsar-esque thing's. Maybe someone with a bit more import knowledge (beaver)? will know what to look for. The stock list is a bit fucked at the best of times so it could have become a cube a while ago, or about to be put out. wish they'd keep the older stuff around a bit longer tbh
  11. ^ Or soak in hot wated and surf, try and get as much of it out of the head then put a litre of diesel in the oil and try and run it through.. It's not looking good for you tho bro, i'd get a wanted ad up for a motor, as some good c*nt will have something better than that. I am guessing it is a smoker as well.. Imagine how blocked the oilway's are.
  12. I'll be there, driving legally for once Will have a suitably old vehicle with at least 90% of parts on it to turn up in...
  13. Why america for a dizzy? Heaps around locally, I'm looking at a box of them here http://www.kewengineering.co.uk/upgrades4mgs/Engines/fitting_the_t_series.htm Do this, get 2.2 Turbo version from a Tomcat and boost it up, easy conversion, the V8 conversion is a prick of a thing, trust me. I have done a couple for customer's, one still uncompleted after 6 years as rails, floor and transmission tunnel and boot floor need modification to make it work properly. Cool car dude, big fan of the mighty B
  14. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 316722.htm Is pretty cheap when you think about all the hassle involved in getting them compressed/cut evenly etc, just do it
  15. Oh yeah, those things.. usually tinkerbell green or similar, would probably look good on a S15 chassis. Will have a squiz tomorrow as I can combine wrecker visit with a meeting up that way = windensday
  16. I shall be going tomorrow, what is a Lucino? Giz a pic and how mint a bumper are we talking??
  17. Are you sure you used the right fluid? Could just be wrong grade of fluid or incorrect level, as the fluid demand in reverse is much higher. Reverse band is adjustable, will look at the books at work later on this avo and let you know the specs / procedure.
  18. Roofchop, roofchop ROOF CHOP !!!!!!!!!!
  19. Rad, I had a look at this place recently when setting up shop, well cool HQ. Shame about the mezzanine been ripped out, would so be liveable pad/hutt slut impregnatin facility if that was still there.
  20. Ken, please tell me it's the old BMC factory, or Todd motors. That would be ace. My industrial unit is packed to overflowing down here in seaview..
  21. Top end lubrication taps, used for dropping oil down the ports and hopefully making it down to the guides.. About 6:1 compression on these old girls, so decompression not usually needed. Useful tho for seeing which cylinder isn't firing. Open each one in turn when running and watch the flames pop out Shell bearings on that motor too, advanced for the day..
  22. Could, but then another will die.. Have new rear guard and the main structure is sound, doorgaps sweet etc. Have spare lights, bumpers and chromebits etc. Also first option on a new rear panel if needed, ex germ- but would like to see how much would come out with a pull first. I think it looks worse than it is , even the bootlid survived unscathed
  23. yeah dude went bush for a bit, needed a break from the car scene, tried to reform/ make new career. didn't work.. Now back buying strange VW's and Audi's and sick shit like figuring out what to put this Daimler V8 in. Brought anything truly OS yet? Humber is waiting here for you.
  24. Work a 1600/ save heaps of hassle, make same power. Been there done the pinto thing, sad that a perfectly good Cortina/Sierra and a perfectly good escort die to make a car that handles horrid without mods for the extra weight, and makes not much more power for the effort involved. I'd go with gaz's suggestion and go Ca18 and equivalent brake upgrade, sounds a good one
