  1. Yeah but 55mph flat out with a dodgy six ain't gunna be skid material.. I'd go with something in a V formation, or a BIG flathead 4
  2. Dodge six is a bloody big motor for an Austin 7, would go well tho, if you can live with white metal bearings and no synchro's down low then go for it. At least it will be different
  3. ^ there were two types of V4 ford, one sucked, one was quite rad. Foget which was which, but one was german, one was essex. I like the idea of the diesel or the pontiac motor, but for cheapness and rad power/lightweight and easiness of parts and finding one. There is only one answer... Rover V8 Now it has been said you can all go about your business in anticipation of a Austin Seven pick up with a rover V8 that will be all
  4. There is only one option for an Austin hotrod Daimler V8 and manual box
  5. Time for former merc mechanic to jump in, from the above pic I assume it's a M104 and not M112 V6, from the lack of booster assistance it sounds like an air leak is causing the poor starting and poor running, air flow meter will not work and will give false readings if there are air leaks present. Infact the air flow meter may have been incorectly diagnosed last time around. pull plugs and coil leads to check for moisture, also check the coil packs have welds up the sides of them, if not get that done as it stops arcing. Factory specified cure for misfiring. Also if the thermostat is removed then you will smell the cats get sulphurish, blocked cats are a possibility but rare on this model as they are huge. It does sound like the inlet cam is too retarded, and these are on a magnetic plunger setup for advance, signal for this is from ecu, again if incorrect air mass and lambda readings + engine operating temp fluctuations it will effectively go into limp mode and not operate any fly by wire accesories. I would start by pulling plugs and check manifold and all vaccum hoses, also avoid Wellington star like the plague, not a single mechanic there was around when these were new, let alone had much experience or really care, I should know. Any more dramas let me know I will check it over for beer etc James
  6. rwd is oldschool hell anything that moves under it's own power these days is welcome or we can share a dealer plate and bring the HB
  7. I shall bring out the dead/risk life and limb getting it there. Have devoted today to making it semi driveable
  8. Well there you go, shows how little I know, funnily it appeals to me more now knowing its actually made of steel. Might measure one up and see if it will fit in the engine bay of my Morris Minor...
  9. I have a contact with a spare Viscount motor and trans sitting around, will check it out for you if ya like. was going for scrap last I heard, I think an opel six would be a good swap, as there is so much room length ways in the engine bay. It's the steering gear i'd worry about clearing with a V6 and also it would be ridiculously light in the front end after pulling the Vauxhall lump out, with an alloy V6. Chuck a AJ6 Jaguar 4 litre with supercharger in please and be my hero.
  10. Buick V6 is a crap motor Vauxhall six is a good motor I fail to see the benefit of such a conversion
  11. Go see your friendly auto electrician who rebuilds starters, or a sympathetic engineer can turn you some in bronze- or brass depending on what it was originally. Take all of the casing down so they can line bore it straight if neccesary.
  12. yep, that be some sloppy starter bushes if ever I seen them, file all high spots off armature and put in new bushes- do a skid
  13. I have storage here in Gracefield in the unit behind, which is used for boats etc, good access and security, I know it's not Southern coast but it is close to the Marina. Can give details if needed. James
  14. I at least get the luxury of having a dealer plate in the car, for instances of woop woop, never display it tho..
  15. I shall be also be rolling something new and long out of reg or wof.. OS - how we roll?
  16. Thanks for that, just done it and will run flyers around al the scrap buyers. yeah that is the one, when did you see it last? Just did the rounds of the car yards here in Lower Hutt this morning, will try pick a part before heading out to Porirua.
  17. haha, yep or a Hillman Hunter. Just spoke to Police, they have no idea how to handle it.. Will email all the scrap dealers now with photos then do the rounds of scrap dealers, does anyone know where some dodgy scrap clowns are hiding around Wellington?
  18. So, after a bit of help from you guys, my VW K70 has been pinched from the roadside, it was pushed out onto the street in Karori a week ago without my knowledge- off private property. It is missing it's headlamps but it is still wearing it's plates ( GE 6249 ) Have rung Police Communications, but they have no record of it been towed, has since been reported stolen, the value of parts to anyone else is nil, so is most likely been broken for scrap. looks like this Same colour and all, just not as mint. So if you guys can keep an eye out, especially around dodgy scrap dealers. Would be much appreciated. James.
  19. I love how the passenger at back will be cupping some ass, a bike for lovers (man lovers?)
  20. I am trying to do a deal on the beige one at present, its the distance from me that is the annoyance.. It would certainly not stay beige, I was also thinking dangerous nutmeg with a flash of aggresive cream and a black roof. There is also a silver one with red interior down the road which is looking sad with flat tyres etc, looks good with a black stripe. Cam, giz your grannies one or do it up yourself
  21. I do this with two strokes and modern cars, wouldn't reccomend so much with older 4cyl.. There are plenty of good running in oils, but i'd use cheap multigrade as said before and take for long drive taking it out just before redline in each gear slowly, and increase load after 500k's, after 1000, skids on
  22. Oh my god!!! SO jelly, I learn't to drive in a Majestic Major, very rare car and even rarer engine. My dream has always been to stick one of these motors into a Daimler 2.5 V8 with a manual box. Dart's are cool cars too, please give up on it and sell to me Did the doors fly open at speed in this one?
  23. Pretty sure that effort must entitle you to a top shelf 40 at least! Good old british steel, truck life. Also a guy in my building has the exact same truck, used daily to carry oil drums. Will get a photo of it next time it's in action.
