  1. Penetrol paint oil. In white tins at bunnings. This stuff is amazing. Have a google. Its thinner than water so wets out porus surfaces extremely quickly and throughly. You can drip it onto a seam and watch it push its way in and move along into every crevace.
  2. yup, will do all the steel. A little concerned that the new guards i have lined up will clean up too nice- i guess wont take them long to get messed up a little. Cannot decide on gearbox/engine color! I think grey wont have enough contrast with the bare steel tin work. Might have to black zinc the whole thing and then go over it with penetrol for some gloss and sealing. BTW. I know i have said this 20 times but penetrol is amazing stuff. Sheetmetal seams and rust actually drink the stuff- its quite satisfying being able to slosh a joint with the stuff and watch it wick in. There are tests online with photos showing how it penetrates joints- amazing stuff.
  3. Im pretty good at assembling these starters now. Had an issue with the new component not sliding nicely on the shafts spline without binding. Took about an hour with a diamond hone to get all the rubbing spots down..one by one. Then engaged the coil with jumper leads and set the pinion throw using flathead and jam nut on side of starter. This is so that when at max throw you arent loading the fork and pinion up into the end of the snout. Installed the starter, made sure there was no water in any of the fuel lines/filters, emptied the intake air cleaner (it was FULL of water) and... She fired into life after about 4 revolutions. First time in quite a while and it only took a few seconds for it to have zero smoke and run SUPER clean Then i stood back and put thr hood on. I havent finished with thr side panels and grille yet. Then back into the shed i wire brushed and penetrolled the underside of the hood and then hammered out the big dents up front. Ill get it better later (probably never will)
  4. Went and met a super awesome barry in Thames who actually rebuilds starters and alternators. This guy is the ONLY person I'd spoken to who had any idea about my starter problems. He had a replacement part on the shelf for $140 and was happy as to show me all of his NOS spare parts and impossible to find bits and pieces. Every other person tried to sell me a new starter! I'd highly recommend him to anyone with old electrical stuff that should work but doesn't.
  5. such a sweet gag. I've never had any issue with the dixbro cup wheels. they always wear down before they fly apart.

  10. Its going to mow my lawns and also id love to make use of the rear hydraulics with attachments like- -engine lifter -mole plow -rear scoop.
  11. The best part is that this thing lived by the sea (coromandel) and yet its still only got surface rust* *With exception of the 2 hood holes and the bottom corners of yhe front side panels and also the rear guards. So what im trying to say in hindsight is that the hoods good and the rest isnt.
  12. Yeah, fuel filler. Unsure why the whole thing hinges!

  14. If a moderator could send accross all my other posts from earthmoving thread that'd be great (i dunno how to send over the pics i attached) Did this today. 95%ish bare metaled the bonnet then covered in penetrol. May straighten out the dents + patch yhe two rust holes later buy for now im happy with yhe result. Removing the darkened oxidised areas has killed my hands.. she aint perfect but for 60 years old its done well.

  20. as mentioned on FB, glad you are okay man. Also glad ya weren't doing 100+ That photo of the brake shoes should be a good lesson for all of us- these parts are old and definitely not made for the heat and abuse they now see. Also shows how valuable safety gear is. So many people will rip round with just shorts on because its just a scooter- that ain't cool. xoxo
  21. This this is amazing. I had totally forgotten about it until you blasted past on the back wheel (while leaning forward)
