For reference, I have 290mm vented front rotors and 280mm solid rear rotors on the Commy with similar HP to an NA 1JZ - probably weighs the same as a Crown and it pulls up pretty reasonably.
-
Disc brake rear end and appropriate master cylinder would probably be sufficient upgrade.

I'm assuming that it's been idled around the shipping yard, customs, vehicle testing etc etc so it will probably be carboned up quite a bit from all the slow speed running. But eliminate items one by one in a methodical process. Start with setting the timing to a known OK (as Spence says, 10 degrees with the vacuum off and plugged) Next check things like oil is not overfull and for manifold leaks etc, silly things that should be picked up in regular maintenance. Then compression test and that includes setting tappets and I would even give it a bit of a hillbilly water injection to clean off any excess carbon crap inside the combustion chamber. Finally check the carb is set right, but seeing as it has come from Perth I would say the climate is much different to Auckland so will probably need different emulsion tubes and chokes at the least. So for that I would take it to Weber Specialties up your way and get him to dial it in. He would have the full range of jets and emulsion tubes and chokes to get it purring. When setting up the carbs they will adjust the timing to as much as the carbs will allow and what the motor can handle. It might cost a few hundred but unless you get someone keen to do a perk who knows their shit and has all the bits then you'll be chasing your tail and probably spend more eventually. (the cost to tune will be substantially less than what you paid to bring it over) Ask @vivaspeed how good Weber Specialties work is. http://www.weberspecialties.co.nz/

Here are some more pics of it in chassis mock-up stage. I think those pics in the post above may have been how it first turned up.

Call Kevin at Autocare Kilbirnie. He is in Wellington and is very good. Have a chat and lay out your plans and see if he can meet your needs. Driving it to Wellington and getting a flight home should be a small part of the cost of what you are doing. The reason I thought of him is I know he has done something similar for a 70s Chev pickup for the guy who owns Placemakers Tell him KK sent you. He hand built his own Trans-Am racecar too.

I can vouch for Daif/Nu Del.

Thread is 10 years old. She hasn't posted for 8 years or been online for at least 3. So chance of an answer is minimal sorry.

Won't matter unless it is in gear or you try to put it in gear. With the clutch pedal out it us fully engaged anyway.

Johnnyboys 1986 Subaru Vortex XT 4WD Turbo - Discussion
KKtrips replied to Johnnyboynz's topic in Project Discussion
Shit me they were an ugly car back in the 90s when they became a more common appearance in NZ through Jap imports. Still ugly but kind of a trendy ugly. I must have mellowed in my old age. Approved! -
Fucking hell Joshy, what a fucking weapon From this... to this in 2 months... Loooooooooooooooooooong whistle and let's be honest - the first picture is doing it justice...

Yup as above, check if you can turn it over by hand to eliminate a dodgy starter or battery. If it is seized then be a kinda gentle swinging on the strong arm. If this makes sense, put some strength behind it and "prise" it free rather than shocking it. Shock loading it can break a compression ring. Oil, diesel, CRC/WD40 down the bores will help a lot too.

Try Mico Metals in the Hutt. They have all kinds of non ferrous metals and sell offcuts. -

Come up on Saturday Gary, stay the night for a few ales/sharns. -
Kicker, go see Steve at Bridgestone Miramar. He did the wheel alignment on my Coon and turned it from a bit of a wanderlust dog to a point and go sweetheart. Good price too.

See you there -
It's exactly what the above is, the Intercity 125. Fastest diesel train in the world @ ~145mph (125mph design speed - hence the IC 125 designation) Myself I'm all about the Deltic's.... geoooogh *foam* (and the Pendolino's are pretty sweet too *schwing*)

Pretty much. But I thought maybe it might be in the higher single or low double digit numbers of deaths. LOL/not LOL

Ditto, ^ Also Murder Train - I've got a feeling I know what you mean but more explanation please?

Cars Wanted for Movie Set Wednesday 3rd May
KKtrips replied to KKtrips's topic in Lower North Island Region
100% agreed but I didn't set the parameters. However if some have some early 80's car then chuck it in the mix - I'll send her all the pics and she can make the call. Fuck it I might even recommend my Falcon. -
Cars Wanted for Movie Set Wednesday 3rd May

Sweet, can you post up a pic of your car in this thread and if you will need for the car to be picked up and where from. -
Want your car to be famous on the big screen? I've been asked if we can provide half a dozen cars for a movie being filmed next Wednesday 3rd May in Petone for a movie called Blind Panic https://www.facebook.com/blindpanicthemovie/ The cars will only be stationary props and there are no other cars being driven on the day so there is little risk of them being hit by other cars. What they need is late 80's - early 90's cars (movie is set in 1992) preferably stock as possible or with somewhat period correct modifications. Even something like your daily '91 Subaru Legacy will be fine. (or similar Honda, Toyota etc etc) Preferably NOT red though because it messes with the camera??? Your car will be needed from 7.30am till 12.00pm in Petone but you do not need to be with the car if you don't want to stick around. They can even pick up and drop off your car from you if you are busy at work on the day. They are offering $20-$50 worth of petrol vouchers if your car is not just coming from around the corner. (low budget movie etc...) There is a potential if they identify bad weather that they will be filming on Tuesday instead but that will be decided by Monday If you are interested can you post up a pic of your car in this thread and if you will need for the car to be picked up and where from. I'll send through the pictures to the director tomorrow and hopefully she'll get back to me pretty pronto with what she wants. Cheers

First compare them from centre of that hole to the centre of the mounting point on the other end of the arm (whether it be a ball joint or through bolt) If they are the same then I wouldn't worry. It could be based on a machining template and there is still plenty of meat on the "offset" one. Second if they are different I would check how they look compared to stock one. You might find that one is purposefully shorter for more turn-in on the predominant outside wheel (normally the LHS on RH drive cars) If so then it will be to counter the inevitable camber you find on most roads (road camber is mostly there because of surface drainage and they haven't scraped back enough of the road surface the last 12 times it has been resealed)

New rotors won't be that expensive. Price them up from BnT
