  1. Bass pulls a shitload of current, not what your standard 4x100rms can readily supply. Dedicated sub / amp system and high pass filter on the 4chan works mint. Even my PDX will cut out at high volume with the high pass turned off, but then it is running 2ohm speakers which are harder on the amp than 4ohm
  2. Yeah A/B is probably a better option if you're after quality, however the high end D class amps are pretty sweet. Hell of a lot smaller and more efficient than the A/B amps, especially the high power jobs. D class sub amps are all good, high output in a small package. Edit: This is one of my amps. http://www.alpine.com.au/showItem.php?item_id=74 It's pretty lush. I doubt you'll ever need anything like it.
  3. Ah yes, that part will suck.
  4. Probably gonna hit a 12+ hour drive down

    4age help

AFM would cause it to die at anything after idle, as it doesn't realize it needs to add more fuel. So will have similar symptoms. Flatmate reckons the TPS is the most likely culprit.

Nah I mean AFM. Whether or not his engine has one is irrelevant. But yeah, check the MAP sensor if you do not have an AFM. Fuck knows how ya check one of them though

Make sure the Air Flow Meter and Throttle Position Sensor are doing what they are supposed to.

I would look for vacuum leak, make sure some pipe hasn't split or popped off, Check the AFM and TPS, After that I dunno.
  9. I've never spent less than $1k on an amp, so... That Alpine one looks alright, 50W RMS per channel should be plenty adequate. Has better crossover adjustment compared to the Pioneer unit, which is good if ya wanna run a sub, either on the same amp or trim the lower end off the mid/high speakers. It's also a bit smaller than the Pioneer, so easier to hide under a seat etc. Would be my choice anyway
  10. Oxide red primer will do nicely. Combined with "FREE CANDY" scrawled on the back
  11. Mash the Cressida master cylinder on there. Will be mint
  12. The Jaycar amps are actually pretty good for their price. Don't worry too much about the wattage, amp / speakers don't need to be perfectly matched up. If the amp has more output then the speakers are rated for, just turn the gain down
  13. Was talking to KK last night, he says there's always something going on so we're gonna meet up and crank out some awesome
  14. Alpine / Pioneer Spend cash, do it right.
  15. Pfft... If your car was a 1920something Dodge then yeah, but downgrade = lame Especially when 18r was still a factory option in them cars. Just stick a 6R sticker on it and pretend nothing ever happened
  16. Read the thread 'bout 18Rs? 18R = 3X better than 6R. maths and shit
  17. Operation Credible Sport involved a prototype cargo plane fitted with forward facing rockets designed to slow the plane down very quickly for landing on short runways Could look into a similar setup mounted on the roof. Alternatively, MX73 brake / strut conversions seem to be a common upgrade. Don't know what is involved in fitting them though, but I do have some if you want them.

    Alternator

Alternator pulley not level with crank pulley?
  19. Alright. This here is a pre-update. Car has been running pretty mint for the last year, driven all over the island, towed numerous heavy objects, been slept in, drunken in, partied in etc But now it's time for some upgrades. The engine is feeling pretty tired, the gearbox is on its last legs. Diff is making all sorts of unsatisfactory noises. Dodgy bits of rust are annoying me, paint is sun damaged, interior needs a revamp and electrics are a bit on the downhill side of things.. Soo... This winter the car will be torn down in to lots of little tiny pieces and cleaned up, replaced, upgraded etc. Basic plans include a new 5/7M-GE (5M head on 7M block), possibly with some form of forced induction, a new gearbox, and new diff. Rust repairs, new / better condition panels and doors Upgrade to a lot of the electrics, install an alarm Hopefully get a new coat of paint and chrome on the outside, and recover the seats. Pretty much everything on the list I posted a year ago... I am wanting to get it back on the road and certed come summertime, but that probably won't be possible But oh well. Anyway, some goodies I have acquired, and to fill my image quota.
  20. Yeah sucked in shit and worn out the cylinder. They work pretty much the same as a car engine, so worn rings, damaged valves and fucked gaskets cause lack of compression
  21. Seals / rings / whatever it is in the compressor could be worn out and not sealing any more
  22. Possibly, but the one you currently have is most likely better. Just take it to a carbie shop and get it reconditioned.
  23. Meh, tired. I read 'em as I see 'em
  24. Huh? Strombies don't have electric anything..
