I got the roof rack from Platinum VW Spares www.vwspares.co.nz/ it's a beetle specific design, not sure how well it'd work on something with a flatter roof, though I'm sure it can be modded to do so... I need to get some leather straps made up before I can put stuff on it though...

aside from a decent clean (and more Euron8 will say more low) I'm pretty much ready for the trip to Leadfoot Ranch on Saturday... which will weirdly be the longest drive I have ever taken it on...

my first car ever was a UC with a 202 fitted in to it with bits of RHS...

a shoot would be cool... will keep you posted about the completion of the finer details... when I was a kid, I was really taken with the resto-rod style hotrods I kept seeing in US mags (pre-internet days obviously) and this is my take on that with a beetle (though some credit needs to go to the orginal owner who widened the steels before most people were doing that with bugs)

new door cards, need to vinyl paint the arm rests to match... two windows in, but it turns out I'm not a glazier... damaged the glue holding my headliner in, re-gluing with ados now... almost seemed like the silicon lube I was using released it...

headliner was fitted at Waikumete Auto Upholstery (nice guys and did a fantastic job)... and the seats I did myself...

the subi box swap is a reasonably expensive way to go imho... especially since the only real advantage it offers is 5speeds... (not that I'm not tempted personally)

^ video After almost 5 years of silence it started for the first time this weekend. Have completely rewired the whole car with a new loom and converted it to 12v while I was at it... btw putting 12v into a 6v choke will ruin your day... It's funny how jobs seem take much longer than initial estimates... The next task is to have a headliner put in....

afraid that ship has probably sailed now the paint is done... maybe as part of it's next rebuild... (or maybe if I have to remove the engine a few times...)
