  1. A lot of (euro at least) cars have a cutout on the power circuit for the fuel pump, which triggers on rapid deceleration - eg a crash. You may have tripped that.
  2. Worked a treat. Thanks Joe.
  3. The power steering in the s-Cargo started playing up, so I thought I'd better take a look. Tightened the belt up a bit although it wasn't that slack. Fluid is really low and cloudy terracotta in colour. Pump is noisy although pumping well. Do I need to drain out the old fluid before topping up? Do you have to bleed the system? How??? Is the pump buggered??? Any info gratefully received...
  4. what did your carb come off / is it a 28/36 or 32/36 / did it come off a running engine recently??? If it's been lying around for a while, did you clean it up / check the jets / clean any crud out of the manifold??
  5. if it's only one cylinder, then it could be your plug leads. if it'll idle, try pulling them off one by one and if it makes no difference with one of them, swap the leads with another cylinder and see if the problem moves with it or not.
  6. I can post them up a bit bigger if this isn't readable...
  7. 1600 head is a good starting point, but as Gaz mentioned the CR will be way too high without work. Anything over 10.5 usually requires forged pistons, etc...
  8. isn't it the bit that handles the Japanese ground-based gps?
  9. Using a later ford system... http://www.locust.org.uk/knowlegebase/e ... ition..htm Japanese options... http://homepages.ecs.vuw.ac.nz/~kris/es ... tion.shtml
  10. Billys are gas assisted shocks - nitrogen at high pressure helps the oil when it's getting hammered. The struts are put in upside-down - the thick part of the strut uppermost, and the thinner inner rod is screwed through the base of the housing, with a locknut. Which always rusts up solid. The capri struts are best used to build from these days - they have removeable steering arms, and as mentioned are 1 inch shorter than the escort ones. I don't think they were wedged as standard, but it's pretty simple to do.
  11. there's plenty of info on this install on Mustangs...
  12. dunno if it's any use, but capri struts are about an inch shorter than escorts.
  13. The other thing you can do is to rewire so that both filaments come on at main beam. However, using 100/55W or higher will melt the common pin.
  14. 4 to 6 inches down from the flange.
  15. we used to tack a bar from 1 to 2 and 3 to 4 just to give it a bit more strength.
  16. just wanted to mention bubblegoose does do a pretty good job if you go that way.
  17. Always worth trying a towstart...
  18. the 1300 pistons will go well with a 1600 block and crank...
  19. To the best of my knowledge, yes, a kent oil pump is a direct replacement.
  20. I'm intending to powdercoat my 'minilites'. Is this an acceptable plan??
  21. Can't remember... is there a 12V supply on crank to an 8V coil with Kent engines? If so, check it's connected and functioning.
  22. sholdowa Surprising that...
  23. There's probably a bulb not shutting off... is there one in the boot???
