Anyone want a 350kg ish project?
Really could use new spindle bearings and a bit of love.
Works fine for fairly light cuts in alloy and eats acetal like butter.
Mixture of old 3 and 4 jaw chucks, likely the cast iron backing plates for Machinery House 160mm chucks (unless by some miracle my new one has the same thread on the spindle nose) and a stack of change gears etc.
Comes apart into maybe 4 pieces fairly easily for transport.

Nice one @Raizer. How big is it overall, a bit hard to tell from the pics.
Just a cute little 10x24, but still I'm stoked!
Only giving up maybe 30mm in length centre to centre but gaining 25mm swing.

So ah yeah, I did a thing...
Had been looking at a few of this model lathe on Trademe over the last couple months, but none of the sellers were interested in doing a buy-now then they al ended up selling for WAY above my very limited budget
Until this one popped up in the "more items you may like" suggestions, had been listed less than 15 minutes before I saw it with a low start and no reserve, asked straight away if he'd consider a buy-now, he asked my offer and I made what I thought was a cheeky offer and to my absolute shock he accepted it happily!
It seems to be in really good condition overall from what I can see, needs an $8 belt and a bit of wiring to put a forwards/reverse switch back on it -churr @UTERUS for the hook up on a new one of those and cable to suit!
Currently just has an "oh-shit" button.
And yeah it's been in storage covered in dust attracting oil for a rather long time, so it needs a real scrub up too.
Came with a shitload of tooling and accessory bits too
My QCTP and newish chucks will be finding their way on eventually I think, oh and a light and I might have to have a go at fabbing up a tank for flood coolant one day.
Huge thanks to @chris r for dragging his tonner out to Waiuku to pick it up and also offering a long term loan of his engine crane so I can actually unload it from my van ha, @Tumeke for coming down to supervise loading it into my van/providing a lifting trolley thing, @sentra for picking up the chip tray the seller forgot to give Chris and to the ASSES and Speedcocks for putting up with my excited blabbering about it in the group chats lol

Jump it, only way to know for sure the pegs are up to the task.
I'm sure @64valiant will video it for us.

Also available in the UK and some European markets I belive.
Yeah long wheelbase mk5 Cortina spec was imported into the UK from SA, there's some Sierra ones in the UK too but private import.
They were assembled in Portugal or somewhere at one stage too.

Yeah I saw that.
Would love to grab the gearbox, but don’t have the time to get in there. Aswell as a few other bits like brakes, rear diff and control arms etc
Going by FB the box and most of the good bits were gone before lunch

I use ISO 220... But my lathe is decades old and that is what is recommended.
It's super tacky and 'stringy', kinda like honey.
I got it here: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/car-parts-accessories/oil-additives/listing/3641562467
I need a lot, the carriage is the(large) reservoir and it automatically pumps onto the ways when you move the carriage.
ISO68 is what's actually spec'd in the manual for his lathe for the ways

I looked at the kaabo but it didn't look like it's collapsible and I don't have a big wagon since upgrading from the Stagea.

I've never seen one of these before. A 4wd lada pickup...
They were done by NZ Motor bodies in Palmy, standard Niva with the back cut off and a couple chassis rails added to hold the deck.

Think it's close to time to retire the old Challenger lathe, so I'm keeping an eye out for something from this side of the 1940s now!
Headstock bearings are well past it, one's been relined with white metal at some stage in it's past and that's now all pitted and gouged, massive chatter on anything harder than alloy.
Ways and everything else are pretty worn out too.Still managed to make a few stops for my welding table though.
This is the best I can get out of it, on 1040 steelThat was a less than 5thou cut too.
On the left is one of mine after heating and quenching in waste oil, right is a $10 Buildpro by Stronghand tools.
Dunno if all the time was worth it to save $10, but I at least learnt a few things ha- 10

Somewhat related to welder buying...
For the last few years my welding "table" was a small piece of 12mm plate with a section of angle zapped on the back by a seagull with metallic diarrhea, the angle got clamped in my vice to give a surface as well as tie up my vice to prevent it being used for anything else etc.
Well that's changed!Managed to sell my old DC TIG and my last .22lr for more or less the exact amount needed for the table, got to Machinery house on Friday and it turns out they have a sale starting today so they gave us the sale price and then a further $50 off with their "mates club" deal.
It's no certiflat but fuck I am over the moon with it!!Modded some M16 bolts in the lathe, welded on Bunnings F clamps
*Don't look too close, I'm still figuring out MIG*Oh and much less related, ol' @Geophy had a mate selling a drill press last month and it's found it's way to my shed too.

Shes been a while now since the engine has been out, hopefully it's like muscle memory when she goes back in the hole.
Order some of these before it goes in, might save 5 minutes next time lol

Repco brand paint stripper seems alloy safe.
It's so shit it takes 2 or 3 applications to get paint to bubble and doesn't seem to touch alloy.
It does make skin wrinkle up weird, but not bad enough I'd bother with gloves though

Have heard of them, meant to last about twice as long as iridium plugs.
Have seen them marketed as "lifetime plugs" or something like that.

Could try the places listed here to see if they can help?

Didn't get a pic thanks to the Ranger trying to drive through my van, but we spotted one of those Bolero K11s yesterday, slammed on nice wheels with super shiny black paint with the chrome all polished.
Actually looked pretty sweet for what it was.
