  1. hey boes, just wondering if anyone in the big smoke can check out a car for me sometime in the next couple weeks. it's just a new school mitsi but just want to make sure it's as good as the seller claims it to be. chur
  2. If you could get ahold of an 8A80, that would be awesome
  3. yeah good luck finding a VQ35 for less than a 6G72 They are just as expensive, if not more expensive to get parts for also. The worst are Mazda V6s, over $1000 for a headset for a KL-ZE engine.
  4. also fuck Nissan engines, a VG30DETT barely even fits in a 300ZX engine bay, dunno how it would squeeze into an EX Lancer. 6G72 was originally FWD layout so they made it quite compact, and the 6A12 is even more compact.
  5. haha cheers. yeah I considered putting my 6A12 mivec into the eterna when I had it out of the galant rebuilding it. Problem is it's a 'new generation' engine which has the mounts bolted to the gearbox as opposed to the block like the earlier engines. Also, there is no RWD gearbox which would bolt to the 6A12 (or any 6A1x series). If you want RWD V6, 6G72 would be your best bet. The GTO does have mounts for RWD on the block as it's pre 'new gen', but the 6G7x is an old engine compared to the 6A1x series. They are reasonably strong, but getting parts like gaskets, bearings, pistons etc are getting costly these days. I rebuilt my 6A12 with genuine pistons for under $1300, you would need to double that for a 6G72. A 6G72 is over 200kgs too, whereas a 6A12 is around 150kgs - not much heavier than a 4G63. If I were to do it though, I would use GTO block with RWD stuff (water pump + routing, DOHC manifold) from a Pajero, Diamante 30M MIVEC heads, and GTO TD04 turbos. L200s come V6 (quite rare though), and Pajero box would fit on minus the transfer case. 6A10 is the DOHC 1600cc engine, holds the record for smallest production V6, puts out 145hp. It is possible to put in a 6A1x series with custom mounts attached where the air con pump would be, and with a custom made bellhousing, and a chopped firewall to accomodate the thermostat housing - but at the end of the day it would end up costing alot, especially if you have to get people to fabricate it all for you. Honestly I toyed with this idea for like a whole week, even if I rebuilt the engine myself using my parts hookups, it would be a seriously expensive conversion. I'm staying 4G63 as it's by far the easiest and cheapest way to get power. my 2 cents.
  6. yeah keen for this for sure. us hamboes can like carpool or something haha.
  7. That V8 sounds so awesome!
  8. paint has only a couple coats on the rest of the body, front has a couple more. Still yet to finish, have to weld up the big rust hole in the rear before I do that.
  9. wow I haven't updated this post in like.. forever. Anyway, at the end of last year it was looking like this: I stored it in my parents garage just to get it out of the way as I clearly wasn't working on it. Sold the 2T-GEU I had as it wasn't worth rebuilding, but just got a 2T-GEU on twin mikuni-solex's off rollas22 for it, hopefully will motivate me to actually finish it. Cleaned it up a bit, think it's had a rebuild at some point as most things look new (frost plugs, water pump, gaskets/seals etc) Discussion thread here bitches - viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5208
  10. I had a camera, didn't think to use it. D'oh. Good to meet you lowgan your mate too etc.
  11. but but I was looking forward to whakatane box
  12. haha whoa didn't even see this thread til now. so yeah comin over on sat to pick up engine and box.
  13. On my V6 engine it's just a big loop it's like: ....|...|...|... |=========|-------- from pump/filter | | |=========|-0--------- to fuel return ``|``|``|`` where the 0 is the fuel reg,
  14. Dat180 is Mitch not Chris
  15. I regret clicking on your build up thread now, it almost brought me to tears looking at those photos. Fuck what is it with twats crashing into our oldschool cars writing them off! It's a conspiracy I tell you! I am crossing all my fingers and toes for you man, I hope the insurance co doesn't try and fuck you over (although it seems to be the going trend). Lubs.
  16. looks toyota'ish. Definitely not Mitsubishi.
  17. yup they come in different sizes and pressures, and also come in overflow type or single valve type. Normal cars seem to run anything between 9-15psi for cap pressures.

    N00b diesel help

it's usually just a big plunger on the top of the fuel filter housing.

    N00b diesel help

usually there's a hand pump on top of the fuel filter housing, I think you undo the fuel feed line to the injector pump and pump the hand pump until fuel comes out? otherwise undo one of the injectors and crank it over and see if diesel comes out - at least you'ld know if it's getting fuel or not. failing that ask mongol, he's a diesel pro.
  20. my friend's 99 Altezza got stolen last night, sometime between 12am and 3am in rural Ohaupo. It's charcoal/gunmetal grey number plate DSJ305 and it has 19" chrome 5 spoke wheels. It has an aftermarket kit of some sort, but nothing too out there. There is a dent on the driver's side front fender close to the headlamp. If anyone spots it or knows anything please call Hayden 027 439 9203 Cheers
  21. yeah I'm constantly hounding a mate who has an engineless (he put a VG30 into it) '76 Magnum 4 door. He wants to restore it to its former glory, but the reality is he probably wont. It has a dial gauge too which is what I want. 2.3 is poos, lousy engine. Bulldog had one in bits I was considering, but decided against it. 1256 can stay for now - it's pretty cheap to run really.
  22. she aint light buddy haha heavier than a starion and they are 1250~1300kgs depending on spec.
  23. So these arrived: Problem is the GAB springs I have now are 62mm ID and the spring seats suit 65mm ID springs.. hrmm so I've gotta get some new springs it seems. Need to research what spring rate I will need, for a 1300kg car with about a 55/45 weight distribution. The GAB springs I have don't have their rates marked on them, but I figured they would be close as they were for a Legnum which is similar weight.
  24. looking sweet bro, just need a free candy sign on it. would look sweet sacked on steels (those turbos are still mean) in matty or satin b.
