  1. Cheers man Door cards are definitely not stock, dash was originally blue, not sure whether that colour was an Aussie option, I know the 88 single cab I had back in NZ was all brown originally Steering wheel will be up for grabs eventually, I haven't got the $ spare at the moment to buy a replacement though so it'll be a while. Postage on packages from Aus to NZ is pretty killer too, I've sent a few presents back to family and usually end up paying more for the postage. If there's room in my bag next time I head back that's a possibility though, but that won't be until late January. Mine is actually pretty rough around the edges too, paint job is all over the place with shade and quality, white just photographs well. Cheers Matt
  2. Looks heaps better without wheel trims, how about a pic minus hubcaps to see how that looks? Cheers Matt
  3. Clean up trans sump and filter, scrape off at least two attempts worth of sealing without removing previous gasket stuff, including a shitload of clear silicon, put straight edge across strange feeling end of sump, discover that some special cunt has bent the mating surface, tap it back as close as I can get it without a bench (next garage mod), refit sump with gasket goo, realise I've got 3 extra bolts, face palm, remove sump, refit filter, refit sump finger tight, let dry for an hour, tighten properly, now got a 24 hour wait for gasket goo to cure fully then top up through dipstick tube, then drive!!! Can I lose ATF through the bellhousing? It looks like there may be a minor leak around there somewhere but it's to dirty to see if it's ATF or oil. Ummmmmmm I didn't take any pics because it's a sump, you guys have all seen them. So because picture less updates are ultra lame here's the one the gf took when we picked it up. I was happy, but look like a tard. Cheers Matt
  4. Aaron/honda mad mate reckons the housings are different but the internals are the same from Hondas of that era. He's pretty browntop up to speed too, he's got a CRX and DA1 with them. Cheers Matt
  5. Yeah, I was bringing it home the other night, bit of rain on the highway, just taking off normally then realise I'm not going anywhere. Big smile moment I'm thinking about locking the diff and taking it down the drags, see how it goes/ruin my tyres while warming them up. Also considering manualising the box, it's electrical magic stuff but I've got a mate who loves that shit. I'm just not sure if it's going to make it super annoying to drive normally though, the auto is making me lazy
  6. Did the lower ball joint today, had a massive score in that Repco (my usual parts place was out of stock) is running out there home brand versions so I got it for $3.19. Yuss!!! Also pulled the sump off the gearbox, then the filter. It's definitely got some particles in there, it doesn't seem like enough to be causing issues but maybe. The fluid looked pretty red to me, but I've bought some fresh stuff so I'll use that. Pics of particles in filter: Opinions??? Also, this is the dream: Except WA is shit so in the interest of keeping it semi legal this is the more likely dream: Cheers Matt
  7. Pretty sure it's electronic, and it's not smokey at all. It's got solenoids for shifting through the gears, wouldn't have vacuum as well? I didn't realise at first that I needed to check the level whole at idle, but the fact the levels dropped enough that I lose reverse still says leak to me. Going to seal the fuck out of the sump and put it back together after work tomorrow. Cheers Matt
  8. Oh, I replaced the radius rod, which takes care of the super fucked ball joint. Waiting on parts for the lower ball joint. Still need to sort a few globes and the stereo wiring too
  9. Update 1: aka reliability/safety comes first............ Shit. Cheap cool cars are cheap for more reasons than expected. I've lost reverse 3 times now due to low ATF levels? Topping up has fixed it twice. There's a minor leak underneath (either the gearbox sump or the output housing, or of course both) but considering I've put a litre in and there's none on the ground anywhere I've parked I'm not sure where I'm losing it. Coolant has been checked and is good. ATF level is where it should be now, maybe a touch on the low side Going to pull the sump off tomorrow, check for dirty filter and crap in the ATF, otherwise any ideas? I've never really played with autos so I'm winging it. Also jacked up the corners to do my usual new vehicle check, one dodgy lower ball joint and one supremely fucked ball joint at the bottom of the idler arm. Like 20mm axial play fucked. Cheers Matt
  10. Was showing my Honda mad mate your build thread last night, dizzy' s are meant to be fairly common between other Hondas and readily available. I can get more details if you need but to be honest it sounds like you're going to the wrong mechanic, rather than getting the wrong info Cheers Matt
  11. I bought a new toy. I've been looking for an RN30/40 for ages but I've been pretty fussy, with one of the harder conditions being that it needs a wellside. There are fuck all. Then this came up, I was like meh, extra cab, but bonus 4x4 tub and guards Plus it's got this!!! Plus it's engineered, and only cost me 3.5K. So fucking cheap. So I went to look, drove it, sounds amazing, bargained the price down a bit, then went home and organised the $ and picked it up last night. It's got a few things to sort, typical hilux rust, high beams are out, shit wiring job on the stereo etc, but it'll make a way better daily than the boring corona I'm retiring. Cheers Matt Discussion Thread
  12. +1 for pics of how you mounted the IRS!!!
  13. That's a mean score for $850!!! Always liked these things, I used to have the earlier model but I think I like the boxiness of your shape better. You'll struggle to find a wellside though, they don't come up very often Cheers Matt
  14. As much as I'm head over heels in love with your escort, it makes me realise how shit I am at cars. Awesome work Cheers Matt
  15. First run was this one, against a mates MR2, he ran his first 13 second pass with fresh motor/turbo build. I was slower. A lot slower. First time ever drag racing, I managed to miss 3rd and came in at 21.5 seconds. Ran 4 more passes, all were between 19.8 and 19.4, about what I was expecting/hoping for. Nothing spectacular but it's a 50+ year old car with a stock hilux motor and a 350 Holley. I was happy, and had HEAPS of fun Last run was this, the quickest/fastest of the night:
  16. Then yesterday they had a special price for Toyotas down at Kwinana drag strip for Whoop Ass Wednesday, $20. So I went and bought a helmet, washed all the oil off the bottom of the gearbox/chassis, and gave it a good clean Then went drag racing for the first time ever!!! More pics to come, work time.
  17. I am the king of updates!!! Not really. I'm pretty shit at them actually. Haven't done much lately besides basic maintenance and drive it. Did a cruise out to the York motor museum a month or two back which was pretty cool, Crown ran like a champ the whole way Cheers Matt
  18. A guy I was in the navy with had one, Chris somebody. His was fairly clean and standard from memory, been at least 8 years since I've seen it though. Motivation: Cheers Matt
  19. It's awesome to see something 80's jap spec as clean, well maintained and obviously loved as much as this. Makes me wish I had the spare space for one as a nice cruiser, but I've already got to many cruisers Cheers Matt
  20. This would have been perfect at Toyotas in the Park last weekend!!! you buy those front hubs/brakes off Clint? Nice choice on the engine swap, I get pretty tempted myself to be honest Cheers Matt
  21. Check ballast resistor on start circuit, they bypass when starting then switch over once you release the key so symptoms are a definite possibility. A link to this discussion thread in your project thread might make it a bit easier to find, they do tend to disappear pretty quick once they're off page 1. Hope it helps on the startup issue Cheers Matt
  22. Love the car, heaps jealous! Being a crown piner I have to ask about the one in the background, is that making its way to NZ as well? Cheers Matt
  23. Good to see someone doing such a great job on a 3G civic, love these little things. Cheers Matt
