  1. Whats the best way to sharpen drill bits? I am constantly smashing my drill bits into stuff thats too hard and making general trouble for myself. I was shown how to sharpen a drill bit a long time ago but I have forgotten exactly how, and I recall its easy to fuck it up. There are heaps of all kinds of weird machines on trademe/google including hand powered and electric. But whats your best method or tool??
  2. Ah shit it broke off, eh just drill it out bigger, chuck a tek screw in there
  3. Oh man, self tappers? that seems so ruthless. Do you think they centre punch or predrill the bones first to stop the drill wandering all over the show?
  4. Ah man I just bought one of the jaycar kits, it works occasionally but then makes my dash have a hernia and go into limp mode. apparently there could be some weird grounding issues. Maybe I can get @Ned to look at my car and we fiddle an arduino to do the job
  5. man thats legit you got that stuff rewound hey @Kimjon you should talk to markku about getting the wajax coils rewound. I never found anyone to do it, but could make the engine run without a battery
  6. cat was not interested in your shenanigans
  7. Mean. You are just testing break load? so no computer attached for seeing how it broke? My parents are buying a load tester at the moment, I think its 5 ton tension and compression. Has computer attached for displaying failure modes etc which should be pretty cool.
  8. True! will make extra sure of this when rebuilding my motor
  9. Is an air leak a common failure? How does it happen? Air somehow bypassing the carb? Broken inlet manifold?
  10. Hey no guarantees to be coming just yet, but what was the story with accomodation? I think its been mentioned a few times but cant seem to find the info now. Maybe update first post?
  11. felt pretty good passing 4ages with my 50 year old engine with bike carbs TBH
  12. internet old wives tales? Whats that thing, it takes 10 times more energy to disprove something stupid than it is to say something stupid, or something like that. Thats why all this fake news stuff is taking over the world.
  13. there are heaps of small things that need to be altered on bike carbs, I think lots of people who have trouble with them only change main jet sizes. Car engines work a bunch differently to bike engines, mostly with how fast they accelerate rpm's so they need to be altered to suit
  14. thats whack how fast this thing go now? its 70cc?
  15. You should put the injector he other way and run the carb in the backwards position just for lols
  16. you can't mount them after the throttle plates?
  17. I ran no filter for years, then put some of those sock filters with springs inside on and I didn't notice any difference, I got the biggest/fanciest ones I could find though because I heard it may be a problem. Interestingly when engine was pulled down because I wanted to put a bigger cam in it, there was no indication of debris getting inside the engine/any damage after several years of running with zero care about dust
  18. The vacuum doesn't work well at lower rpm, it makes the vac advance on the distributor pulse and sound like a noisy tappet, but after 2000rpm it either pulses fast enough or you dont hear it over engine noise. Not sure how it would work on the brake booster, but I imagine it would just take a while to replenish vacuum after pushing in the pedal with low rpm's but be fine at driving speeds My setup was R1 carbs on 1800 crossflow motor. had a non-returning fuel pressure reg, malpassi something with a lift pump. Rot808's car has the standard mech pump on it I think. Just need to check for your setup. If they are CV carbs then you should make sure that the vented tubes on top of the CV diaphragms are blocked off or connected to each other. Bike engines can change RPM way faster than car motors so can cause some trouble if you slam the throttle. Also makes a funny flutter noise on accel not blocked off
  19. There shouldn't be a crab in the engine? /its only partly burned petrol and fumes?
  20. just get the biggest you can find/afford
  21. dude has made it a bit hard by making it during business hours or by appointment, so as soon as possible, but only what you can manage. You would need to give the guy a call to organise a time to look at it
  22. Ah yeah it’s a Subaru Outback 3.0r @64vauxhall is the expert but he’s on Hamilton
  23. Hi guys, I am overseas at the moment but will be coming back to NZ soon and have been looking at cars on trademe for a new daily. I wonder if someone is able to go out to Kumeu and check out a car, take it for a thrash and make sure it goes alright/maybe chuck an OBD sensor in it? If its sweet I will get it and would need it dropped off in East Tamaki $100 in it plus we split the difference of you get off the asking price If the car is bought, I wont hold the person accountable for anything wrong with the car, its a second hand car after all. But just give it a hoon and make sure it goes alright and no check engine lights pop up, no major suspension clunks and no rust
  24. I didn't know about the boots when I ordered mine, I asked somewhere (I forget where) and the idea was that it was only needed for unusually dusty environments, like australia or something Anyway my wilwoods have been on my car for 5 years and havent had any issues with them.
