  1. Hey Leeky1, Nice to see a full resto happening on this car. It is pretty typical of these to have rust in all the areas you have it in. You scored a reasonable car from Alan and probably got it just in time before the rust got worse. Genuine GT's are hard to get. I did contact you when you got the car but I have a lot of parts for these so let me know when it comes to reassembly and i'll see where i can help. I have the "brother" car that Alan had at the same time - both were used as backup "service" cars for his Targa rally exploits in his third celica that you probably saw when you got your one. I have tidied up mine and use it daily - photos are deceiving it needs a lot of work This might be some more inspiration for yours.
  2. "Typically there from approx 10:30am on most weekdays". Complete or near complete cars are being sold whole(a lot have gone/deposits). All separate parts are up for grabs. I saw lots of toyota/datsun panels/grilles/lights mainly smaller corolla/120Y stuff when there yesterday!!.
  3. I spoke to Gloria tonight (by prior arrangement)! she sounded very annoyed at all the phonecalls, possibly lay off calling the home number a bit. "couldnt be bothered with all the hassle of going there today" was her words. They are elderly and are doing people a favour selling this stuff when they can. A lot of other yards have just sent it all to recycling please be patient.
  4. Possibly reversed or damaged some seals in the master cylinder. That 1st pump of the pedal to the floor could have done some damage(crap inside/dry wall cylinder), poss worth pulling the old one apart and re-kitting it and giving it another go. Even complete brand new cylinders arent that expensive
  5. Saw the light of day a couple of weeks back - before being promptly tucked snugly into its home
  6. Slowly (very) working through the rust in the car and fitting parts where they need to be once the rust is fixed. coilovers, bottom arms, and 95% of the front suspension done. interior is gutted and the floor sound deadening removed. and battery relocated to the boot
  7. check that the water pump bearings arent on their way out too(prone to failure) - fanbelt off to do that low oil pressure at idle is common these too.
  8. Wrong!! they cant do anything to the vehicle unless u advise them they can. From the VIRM (wof inspection manual) 3.5 Establishing whether the vehicle complies 2. Visually inspect the vehicle to determine whether the vehicle complies with the requirements set out in this manual (see clause 3.1.2.2 of this Introduction). Vehicle inspectors are not required to remove vehicle components during the inspection of the vehicle. 5. Where the vehicle inspector requires further information in order to determine compliance with the requirements, the inspector must reject the vehicle until the information has been obtained. The reason i know this is because an inspector a number of years ago got his ass handed to him by his superiors after i went to the LTSA taking to the bottom of a vehicle with a small pickaxe and removing underseal and paint leaving bare metal (in no less than 8 places)
  9. Sooo Sweet how bout getting a 2nd set of rims and welding 2 back to back. DUALies (cut the centre out of the outer rim to allow bolting of the wheel)
  10. Check the fuel filter and float bowl for crap one of my celica's did exactly what you describe cos the fuel filter was full of crap and some got through through to the carb, it would start/idle but as soon as it revved it died due to crap being moved around in the fuel
  11. Thanks I have had this idea for approx 8-9 years, where i brought the car for this exact purpose of fitting the flares/wheels/spoilers. I didnt have the spoilers when i brought it but have accumulated the parts from different suppliers over the years, used it as a daily driver and raced it on the odd occasion while i have been collecting parts/funds.   12. Suspension in the front is all in. Struts need some adjustment but lookin good Trial fitting of the LH guard and bonnet/lights - still some tidying to do on the guard
  13. OK as requested - a few pics of the 1972 TA22 celica i own As it was for the last 5-6 years At the drags And what i'm workin on at the moment... TRD copies full flare kit and wheels to fit and front "racing jacket" front lip spoiler theres a ducktail spoiler too but cant find a pic of that at the moment At present all the front is off fixing rust and sorting the coilover adjustable suspension and associated mods. Trial fitting of the longer bottom arms! Gives a lot of Negative camber but fills the flares nicely
  14. looking on some parts websites, it looks like there was 1 waterpump for pre 1970, and one for post 1970. What the differences are - i couldnt tell you. I did bolt a MK1 escort plastic fan onto my non xflow 1500 engine that i had built for my consul capri (sold now ) many years ago
  15. This is the only image i can find but some late model escort 1600's had viscous fans. I remember my brothers 78 escort sport had one, i believe a 711 block
  16. Is there a difference in the pumps due to fixed and viscous fans? I know there is with toyota ones so it could be something to check
  17. Unleaded fuel over 6 months old will cause a car to be harder to start. I went through the same ordeal you had before i drained the tank and fresh fuel put in with an 18r toyota motor that had sat for 9 months. Unleaded petrol contains more aromatics than leaded to boost the octane. These are more prone to evaporation. esp in older cars with more vented fuel systems cars 15 years and older possibly have leaded fuel in them which (in my experience) starts far easier.
