  1. Is that the same one you bought the land off? I would happily let you borrow my van for a week or two if you need to fuck her off
  2. Lookin super clean man! Nice ride hight too. Always fond of the escorts
  3. Marvelous acquisition Fresh!!! Just chuck some whitewalls on it and get it down to 100-120mm and you'll be happy as larry
  4. Retain the bottom section. Remember not to cut too much off - you can always sand it level!
  5. Yawn It all depends on the style/shape of the bump stop. This particular style is a bit progressive so should absorb the impact all good. It's when you jsut cut certain styles and they have no shape to them and they end up as a rubber block almost which makes for a sharp impact. just cut and sand so it's nice and smooth, bobs your uncle. If you want to looks at a superlow bump that is new check out the pinned post by sparkle in the tech thread
  6. OH SWEEEET make sure you get pics cos ill still be away
  7. / you will need a bigger crane. but how sweet does that look! I know the NLZ group in wellys have a Nissan 8x4 that rocks round town with a decent sized Hiab. I heard the tare on the truck is nearly 30ton so the hiab must be 20 of that. Anyway i'm not to sure on the specs but might be an option if you give them a call? The power lines may be the biggest issue however..
  8. I have a couple at my pad I'm pretty sure. was thinking of using them yesterday/tonight but got too much on. Am heading up to wagnats tomorrow early, you wanna pick them up tonight or something?
  9. Oh wow. That is alot of power. He must be dreaming? Did he mean 70hp? 70 hp would be good out of a Pinto. Much easier than the 3S and a well documented conversion.
  10. I had an 1100 Mk2 Escort. It was four door but it had a 1300 swapped into it at some point. Much rust but so slammed and many wow. I blew first gear. The 1100 gearbox could not handle the torque of the 1300. Have you considered the 1300? I think this would be a good start for you. Nice and cheap seeing as price is an issue for you. I did plan to put a 13b rotary in it. Many horsepower and compact engine but the Escort rusted away. So much so I scrapped it. I miss that car. How much power are you after?
  11. Yea it's pretty dodgy and I wouldn't do it haha. but murica, do whatever.
  12. Mine is a 35 model, SWB. It's fairly late, being an 85, so has the disks on the front. I take it your lux has drums at the front? If you were ever thinking of converting it, and wanted to go lower, the *N50 series stuff bolts in the front (you needa rob a fair amount from a donor tho). That way you can run drop spindles too but the problem with that is you need 15" or larger rims. I'm not keen on anything bigger than 14" and will bag it one day so haven't really looked into it too much. This joker here swapped a bunch and his RN40 has to be the lowest static drop I've seen. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/build-up-project-threads-21/79-hilux-v2-16023/index9.html Quote: Originally Posted by hood Nice n low! I did the lower BJ flip and added 1/4" spacers on top. Also threw in 4x4 torsion bars from 79-83 to stiffen the ride height. Along with all the lowness bumpstops were pulled and toxic shocks for an S10(shorter) were thrown in. Lol, and Ogre got the XE too. At least you're leading in the sweet garage race. Sheeeeeit. ps thanks for the kind comments guys. Will be a great ute!
  13. Haha cheers man. No plans on brake upgrade at this stage as it stops pretty well with the standy setup. Will have to chuck the tridents back on once it is a runner again!
  14. Me and the van went and got Seedy Al and his engine crane yesterday. Engine and box bolted together: Dummy fit engine/box time: Got the engine in and did some measuring. Engine mounts need to me cut off and mounted further toward the cab on the chassis. Gearbox mounts need some modifying; needs to sit the box about 30mm lower. So Al said he would work on that, thanks mate. Up to date for now. Discuss: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?showtopic=25299
  15. Hit the engine bay with a few cans of degreaser and a scotch pad and it came up pretty good. Might touch up the black patches but no plans for a full paint yet. Dirty Clean Dirty Clean
  16. Steelies’ ol mate has an RN30 with a bung 12R and needed my engine. With the 3RZ here it was a no brainer. Over a couple jars the removal date was set for Boxing Day, but we ended up doing it the day after. Rookie Dave as in town so he popped over the lend a hand, Steelie Manu arrived with a dinky Suzuki Carry full of engine crane and Lion Brown, Seedy Allan brought a bucket of tools and Joe Goat turned up with a sweet new tattoo. With the much appreciated help from all above, the heart of the old Lux was removed. Ta gents!!
  17. So rolled around like this for a while but before long I had chucked my steels back on for better drivability and put it to work. Odd jobs/scrap boat etc. Bwarp shot this one at a monthly meet Shortly after Nats I bought a 3RZ and bits off NicT. The motor was out of an ‘04 Hilux and has done a mere 108,000kms. Standard power for the 2.7L petrol 3RZ is 150hp compared to the alleged 90hp of the 1.6L 12R. Should make for a good ride! While I was at it I picked up a G52 gearbag out of estate’s RN40. 5 speed column change goodness that can mate to the 3RZ with the help of the bell housing that came with the motor. Big thanks the slacker.cam for picking up both the box and engine and storing them for several months!!! Then it was time to collect said parts, and over a few brews, BrockLee and I devised a plan to coincide the pickup with the inaugural OS Drag day. I didn’t really have a vehicle for the trip so I thought it would be a good idea to buy a van less than a week out from our trip away. Enter the Nissan Caravan. 3.2 litres of coal chugging brilliance. Collected on Monday, WOF’d on Wed, hitting the road on Friday. Just under 1,500km of trouble free cruising, we arrived back in the windy city with the bits for the ute, plus a few more. OS freight service in full swing!
  18. Some more photos from nats care of Richy thanks maaate This magnificent shot of Club ’33 even made it into print
  19. Cool. So got it the wof and then Rick and I pulled the tray off and painted the underside with some chassis black. Also cut the headache rack off there as it was hori thai design/construction and then sprayed the front of the tray white. Then it was time to get the thing on the road to nats. Brock Dave and Forman Tomstement came round and we slammed it/chalkboard NASCAR livery. Pulled out a main leaf, the overload and chucked in some 2” blocks. Wound down torsions in the front. Put on the tridents then proceeded to slowly lip and pull the rear guards. Before After Tridents and 14x7” and 8” with 175/60s and 185/55s respectively. Dave stuck around and we had a few rums and did a couple designs for the tray to break up the shitty black thai paint job. Painted it over a couple days, a couple days before nats. Went through a couple cans of cheap paint but had the desired effect so pretty stoked! Then loaded up and headed to nats Some sweet photos from nats Discuss: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?showtopic=25299
