  1. Yea I'll fully be out that night I want to see the gem in its turbo form This Friday I may be sober driving for some other people so I shall swing past if I am...
  2. I generally find there is more action on a Friday night, but meh who cares, same deal as before I wont know what I'm doing till the last minute
  3. I never plan this sort of thing... I'll let you know the day before
  4. Heh good read Very tidy car you found yourself, and at a very reasonable rate I bet your stoked. Wheels sound good can't wait for the pictures All the best with this project fixed
  5. Thats for a mk2. I'm not sure on the mk1 wiring
  6. If you are after a liquid type type then I reccomend Holts Firegum from Supercheap. Great stuff, sets hard as and can withstand white heat (according to the packet).
  7. Looks sweet, haha wait till lowlancer sees this!

    Cooling engine down

Well first test your thermostat. Might need replacing. Electric fan does the job nicely for $70 off trademe. Electric fan with shroud would be better still.
  9. Thats a mammoth radiator!!! Should do the trick
  10. Time to invest in a owners manual

    Mk2 Rebuild

When I rebuilt my 1600 all I bought was new filters ($40) new rings ($75ish) a full gasket set ($170ish) new oil ($25) and some valve grind paste ($12?). Checked my bearings with that blue engineering gel stuff but they looked mint, they would of been about $80 to replace though. I think thats all... so thats just over $300. Did all the work myself, borrowed a cylnder honing tool off a friendly engine reconditioner, otherwise I had all the right tools. It can be done quite cheaply if all you want to do is a straight forward rebuild. Once you start modifing things the price will rise. Also is your 1600 out of a escort? If its a cortina one you might have clearance issues with the sump.
  12. Fully, I was looking into this at one stage, with the solid spring eye bushes with the sleeve bearing in them, the smoothest ride you can get out of an escort.
  13. If you dont mind forking out for new oil and antifreeze Id be tempted to drain both coolant and oil just incase. But Imone paranoid dude haha
  14. Oh shit sux man, hope the rest of the engine is still sweet for you
  15. Is it another Weber? I hear that the ISAN(sp) carbs are real good for a turbo setup.
  16. First thought would be to change where the secondaries open. On a 32/36 its at about 3/4 throttle, and yea mechanical is the word for it. Have a look at your carb its the simplest setup ever. When you press the pedal you open the primary butterfly and when you reach 3/4 a pin locks into the metal bit and then continues to open the secondary butterfly. If you wanted the secondaries to come on later you would just need to extend the hole in the metal part so that the pin takes further to lock into place. I dunno if you understand but look at your carb and it should start to make sense. Dunno if its what your after, but you would have to floor it more before it would bog down, and maybe the boost would have kicked in by then... Cant hurt to try anyhow.
  17. Though in 90% of escorts the two prongs will have broken off by now
  18. Have a scan through some of the older threads the 5spd topic has been covered millions of times As for the supercharger I think you are on your own, nobody on this site has s/c'd a xflow, although kris is currently building up a s/c'd pinto. I know lots of members are keen to try it though so If you do it make sure you take lots of photos for us so we can see how it goes
  19. Oh my mistake, good as then
  20. *cough* Wheres pics of the Gem on 17"s *cough*
  21. So why this project??? Why not finish getting the mk1 on the road eh?
  22. Looks mean with no front and doors etc, Slam an engine in there an go do some laps How much was the sandblasting??? are you going to leave the bumper off the rear??? don't do it!
