  1. Very nice looking car... love the colour, very similarto my uncles Alfa 105 series 1750 GTV, which we call "Doris." Should be a mean weapon with the triples... the sound should be worth the effort alone!!!
  2. its just cos its an old tech N/A dude, would have been much cheaper if it was something more popular. unique costs money, no way around it really. really, its only a true ford enthuiast that will pay the money for an engine like that. buy the motor, buy an anglebox stick the two together and youd have one beast of a car. presuming of course a pinto even fits in an anglebox. I have a mate up here who had Pinto in his 105E a few years back. Twas mental. Went ballistic in a straight line, but a shit-scared kitten on a greasy vinyl floor would have put its handling to shame. And I think dad's old Beddie J1 truck had better stoppers.......
  3. Draiz.... to my knowledge the only turbo R series was a 22R-TE..... low pressure, (6psi) they made less power than the 18R-G's of old. 18R-GE would be my pick of the litter though! Relatively simple swap, bulletproof motors (check out the size of the valves on these things if you get a chance!) and people have had good results with modding them. There's a fair bit of info on them on the net so search, read and enjoy!
  4. Cheers for the comments.... Just secured a 3.9 ratio U-code (6" centre) diff and axles to suit. Should be 5spd'ng it up in the not too distant future
  5. Pics will be up in good time. I've been spending my time on the Alfa of late, since it caught fire.
  6. Brief update.... I haven't been neglecting this car, it made it to Palmy from Chch loaded to the gunnels with my crap Exhaust and extractors have been fitted, it's a bit loud now, however sounds like no other K series I've heard, has this gutsy deep note up til about 4000rpm where it gets a nice rasp going. I have acquired a rot-free hatch, and two absolutely perfect front doors for the beast, all for $130 just before I left Chch. A K50 is sitting here all ready for use, I'm in the process of sorting out a 3.9:1 ratio diff for it (which, I suspect is U code) however WDE BDY has informed me on Club K that I need to shorten my existing driveshaft or source one from a Starlet with a U-code diff. Also bought a set of old ROH 13" wheels, same as Escorta's off TradeMe for $76 bucks.... at first they looked like $20 worth of wheels, I've polished 2 of them and they're looking new, super shiny after treatment with a rubbing compound, fine steel wool then Autosol to finish. I have a tacho dash from a Jap import KP61 S model to install, also acquired a set of KP61 S yellow fog lamps for it, my one obviously USED to have the lamps though, as I have the switch in the dash and wiring which is suspiciously similar to the wiring supplied with the lights! All adds to the Japanese look I'm aiming for. Panelwork will be happening in a couple of months all going well, going for a factory red with a few coats of clear to bring it up nice. I just realised I haven't posted pics of it with the SSR's or the steering wheel on it yet either, one day I'll get round to it. However..... things are happening, watch this space.

Do tell... I'll be requiring jets and so forth in due course....

    dellortos

I've had both Webers and Dellortos on the Alfa, both seemed to hold their tune for at least 6 months, at which point I'd adjust the mixture and re-balance them for winter/summer temps. Webers still have parts manufactured for them, whereas (with DRLA's at least) Dellorto's I have heard no longer manufacture parts. Could be hearsay though, with the amount of "recond" Dellortos around it's possible it's just BS.

Abbreviations (acronyms?) to my knowledge don't actually stand for anything.... here's a rough guide to Webers though though DGV, DGAV, DGEV, DFV, DFAV, DMSA, ADF, DMTR, DIR 2 barrel downdraft, progressive ICH, ICT 1 barrel downdraft DGES, DCNF, IDF 2 barrel downdraft, synchronous IDA 2 or 3 barrel downdraft, synchronous DCOE 2 barrel sidedraft, synchronous I'd imagine you knwo the difference between progressive/synchronous?

DRLA's are a downdraft twin-choke carb... similar to an IDF Weber.
  11. Mooneyes = wicked. Do it... then slam it and let me take lots of photo's.
  12. Zetec has been suggested, not in this thread though
  13. Are Capri's overly heavy? Surely they'd be sub-1100kg wouldn't they, if not borderline 1000kg mark! In my mind I'd go for the purists approach and keep it Ford based. I reckon a supercharged Pinto would be the nuts, would suit the car well, keeps the different theme going that you have. Maybe a Toyota SC14 or something, have a play with drive pulleys etc and have it cranking 10-12psi..... surely that'd keep you happy. Keep a Jap engine out of it IMO.... not to disrespect Japanese engines, I feel by doing that you'll be hacking up something that there's not too many left of, and by keeping it Pinto based it'l just keep it as a nice overall package.
  14. Yuh you're all welcome to show up, meeting @ 6:30 at magwarehouse.com carpark, doesn't matter if you're late or anything, we dunno if we're going on the organised cruise or not, I'm thinking a bit of a blat out to Sumner would be mint eh.
  15. It'l be a flat front nose like my one.....
  16. They've got one out at Budget, dunno if there's fuck all good bits left on it though. Mint though dude, keep us posted, I'm interested to see how this pans out.
  17. I don't care whether I have a Datsun or not, I'm gonna fuckin' join ya's anyways
  18. I'll catch ya March 25th.......... gotta find me a flat too.
  19. That's moderator talk right thurr...... Personally I'd be inclined to go with the CA18DET option myself. Or a super-hot A15 with massive twin sidedrafts on it... mmm induction!
  20. Patricks. There is no other, they've done several bits in my car, seats, doors, pods etc... Wayne is a brilliant dude as well, will look after ya. Genuinely loves cars as well.... always a good thing IMO.
  21. After looking at it, I reckon widen those steels, keep em black and run whitewalls, it would look class. Oh keep that dark green too, looks excellent!
  22. On corrugated iron!!!! Fuck you're keen, we just stuck to car bonnets or tractor tyre tubes. Umm yeah I'd remove the towbar. And possibly the yellow Otherwise it must perform pretty well, how does she handle the corners?
  23. I agree.... stand looked wicked! Add to that approachable/talkative dudes on the stand and it's a winner.
  24. Yup, I'm keen for this, that last one was mint! Alfa needs an open road thrash as well!
