  1. yeah done that, same result... sounded friggin bad ass too...love the sound of a turbo winding up with an open snout
  2. yeah consistant 7psi every time ae..
  3. so i found out ive got a nissan spec ht18 turbo sitting in my shed, its the same mount as the l20et turbo, but has a 3 bolt exhaust flange where as the l20et has a 4 bolt flange..dingo.. i figured that the l20et turbo is still ok.. i took the manifolds off the ld28 and there was oil present in pretty much all intake ports exhaust ports were black but dry.. excessive blow by im thinking...so good bye to this engine.. hope to find another engine asap. get it on the rd then try to get a motor for the stockcar... anyone need a ht18 turbo for a nissan???

    Mig Welders

mine is a ryobi... we had a lincoln at work,it was a 180, fuck did we weld some shit with that.. at the exhaust shop we had a 250ish welder, was bloody overkill, but was good when we had to do chassis work. at my current work the boss has a invertor welder, tbh i hate using it, prefer my little mig.. oh btw its a gasless mig...lol

    Mig Welders

it sits flat on the drawbar... im not saying im a tiocketed welder, but i am saying you can do a decent job with half decent gear.. shit, id love to have a 240a sitting in my shed, but i dont....

none of my shits broken yet,and it gets a real hammering... also welded a 30mm pin onto a 20mm plate as a drawbar that pulls a 8ton trailer..hasnt broken yet after 6 months of work

    Mig Welders

rubbish...my 100amp welds 6mm just fine..just need to practise welding ;P liners are easy to do,and can be easily purchased...pykels usually have them or can get them..
  8. that rexona upgrade will be lush...good for 50hp i reckon
  9. im sure this thread would get a million views with the title of it... i was like...fuck yeah keen...then nah...but maybe... but no,cos i wont be there... surely someones up for a free wristy/happy driver??? lol
  10. ok so i dropped the down pipe off the turbo and the back end was dry as.no oil. comp housing was wet, not drowning just wet.. bugger all shaft play, about normal id say. shaft spins freely,no noises, blades all look sweet. next idea?? engine slogged out to oval?? causing the blowby
  11. dot laugh but alot of yanks chuck ld28s in them and turbo them...
  12. i was gonna say overheating causing delamination... underinflation can cause the sidewalls to bulge...
  13. well i dont think i can give the tranny any sackage as the front beam rolls under the leaves style and im not keen to de-arch the springs as itll make them arch the wrong way, not cool.. so ill keep it as is... the brakes work sweet although they pull to the right so ill check shit over before the wof in december.. i adjusted the fueling on it and reduced the smoke:air ratio by 90%, now its just a faint hint of blue, most likely the turbo. turbo looks to be a stock l28 turbo, so once i find out what else can bolt on ill look at replacing it, unless of course i can find a stock turbo for a l28... then ill also look at putting in a intercooler..its running 7psi...
  14. at the moment the hose on the rocker cover is venting to the atmosphere, gas is cleary coming out, but tehres no colour or mad odour from it. may plumb it to a catch can... i had thought of blow by...
  15. no smoke at idle....it did when i first fired it up but had been sitting a while...didnt smoke when i fired it up this morning... when you put ya foot up it, it smokes heavily like a 70s granny, not hardcore black, probably more dark grey, and stops as soon as you get off the gas...
  16. so ive got this van home now... the smoke is mainly black, to me is fueling.. there is a hint of blue...no noticible noise form the turbo or anything... but whats got me is there is a lot of rocker cover pressure, its got a hose coming off the rocker covers, if i put my hand over the end of it it will blow my hand off after about 5-10secs... she doesnt sound to have a munted piston... suggestions?
  17. be carefull when cleaning plugs, if theyr mass carboned all you end up doing is polishing carbon..
  18. brake clean check for air leaks bro... spray it round the manifold, youll soon know if its an air leak or not...
  19. picked it up today... set off from home at 8.30am and got home at 8.30pm....gay sat at vtnz for 45mins waiting for a wof check on my trailer....fail, bloody brake line fitting is corroded.. so carried on with no wof,lol.. got there, he chucked in the battery and it fired up mint, gave it a blat on the diesel pedal of power and the smoke was grey, then blue.. oil cap looked sweet, oil on the dip stick(cue indian paul henry joke) was normal but low, coolant looked good. so no transfer of oil or coolant etc.. so now my thoughts are definately turbo.. for some reason it has to be in reverse for it to start, so i think the inhibitor switch is fucked or something, needs to be sorted anyway... seems to idle fine, and the turbo sounds mean, love turbo diesels.... its also got a good radiator in it that looks kind of like a merc/bmw item..twin thermo fans, and a trans cooler.....WIN.. will get it off the trailer tomorrow and fang it round the country block, see how she goes.. oh ,and have allready done dirty desel single wheel burnout on the ramp of the trailer...yo
  20. so many things could be causing the smoke, atleast now i have an idea of other things to check aswell as the turbo.. cheers and that would explain why my old cortina smoked hard when i backed off the gas but never when i put my foot up it....i thought she was dead so i traded it in...dang
  21. will excessive crank case pressure cause smoke? and whats a pcv valve thing? i keep hearing that if its blocked itll cause smoke, but never heard of a pcv valve..
  22. how likely could it be for the injector pump belt to jump a tooth? pretty sure this could also cause white smoke if the timing is out.. guess ill do a process of elimination when i pick it up on friday cant wait
  23. if the turbo is blown would that cause any other symptoms that i could identify? like obviously noise smoke pressurised crank case? someone told me this is a sure sign the turbo is gone ( never heard that before) oily water? i woudve thought only with headgasket blowage anything else...?
