  1. Talk smack, trash, crap here. Build thread
  2. KimiWell as photobucket killed my other thread and I have changed cars I have started a new thread. Car was in a shed for 10ish years, was half stripped and some grinding performed then a cover put on and left. I got it about two years ago as a parts pig. My OG car ended up with some structural damage that I was not willing to mess with so with the help of Chris R we cut it up in to bits. Result is that I now have most of the cuts needed to repair this one. The car is a 1980 323i BMW. It was Polaris silver when new but has been painted gunmetal grey twice since then. Factory 4 gear bags non LSD was a disappointment to discover. Delivered to Singapore and imported in to NZ 87ish. It had had some love in the past but I also.think this.May have been to cover some bodging. It had a zender body kit, foha boot spoiler, BBS solid subframe mounts. Hand made stainless mufflers and the front shocks did not look standard. It's got lots of rust. But I have most of the replacement parts from the sacrificial lamb 320/6. So far I have bolted up the coilovers and mocked up the 5stud conversion. E12 hubs, commodore discs and calipers, e28 rear subfrAme and e34 trailing arms and rear discs. Alloy block 2.8 (m52b28) long block in as mock up and matching ZF gear bag waiting on the shelf to be mocked up in the near future. The e28 swap puts the rear wheels out further and the low.offset bbs wheels require some more rear guard removal. I have 2002 bubble flares. But I don't like them So Will be importing some group2 flares. Rear end will be about 4 inch per side wider. Front will be getting 20mm spacers. I'm doing this so I can use factory BMW wheels. BMW wheels are easy to find and often look good so easy to change the look or have a set of track wheels, skid wheels. Photo evidence. Discussion thread
  3. There is a guy up here with a S14 in his car. He built it in the UK then drove it back to nz. It's a cool bit of kit.
  4. but in all seriousness fit a m52b28. will put out 190hp from the factory some simple mods and it will put out a very reliable 220-230 Hp all day every day. the weight of a m52 is about the same a s a m20 so no issues there. it may not rev out to 10k but not much will. But it will have stomping volumes of torque and give you the same power to weight as a e46 m3. There is a reason why BMW do not fit the M4# series to performance and why not many people build them for performance.
  5. Hi. Yay another E21 Can't wait to see photos. If you want to pm me I will add you to the e21 nz Facebook page. If you want to have a chat I'm happy to talk through where to look for rust, where to buy poly bushes from, brake upgrades etc. As I said photos please. I'm keen to see the body kit. I'm starting a new thread for my one this weekend. It's a work in progress.
  6. Dad explains how they used to repair alloy when he was in the army. It sounds like there is a very very fine line between fixed and fucked
  7. What would the difference be lock to lock.
  8. Don't waste to much time scrubbing them. spray them with some degreaser let them soak for a bit then water blast them if you can. It.Just removes the heavy deposits. Keeps the machine cleaner. I will also need need to know what's being painted.and.what's not. I will do a media change and key those parts you want to paint. The normal finish is to smooth for paint and.you will need to.sand.after. Feel free to give me a call if you want.
  9. I can vapour blast the parts for you. Happy to.help. But I hate cleaning bolts. I can do them in the blaster but it kills my hands holding the bolts. Hot water and scrub. Then hit them with a wire wheel. Who do you use? Every one I have spoken to expect them to be pre cleaned.
  10. I also have that intake manifold also for you.
  11. Welcome Dolan. Good luck finding your issue.
  12. This is where I apologise for the loud lap on the gn250. Did not realise how loud it is was when on it. I will expect to see a trans on my door step in the next couple of days.
  13. Yeah springs are all good. The front had clear instructions stating not to turn the release more than once or it will disable the press. Some one had already played b4 I got it so was prob already in disabled mode? Needle also has damaged o-ring
  14. Looking for some help with a shop press. It's a 55 ton American built Carolina press. Two stage Manual pump. I had been able to pressurise the system and lower the ram,.but unable to release the pressure. Yesterday I drained the fluid and released the pressure( covering my self in hydrologic fluid in the processes. Fluid was full of water as it had been stored outside, and a petcock was missing off the top. Has any one ever rebuilt the pump unit on a big press? I'm hoping it's just o-rings and a good clean?
  15. No its not a judge free Zone. A gn is a gn and he shod be named and shamed.
  16. When I was selling ross pistons, anything custom like this required a schematic drawing. Did you provide one? Have they just supplied you shelf pistons with machined pockets.? I would be walking them back in with a copy of the communication you had with them and ask them if they fell what you ordered is what you received.
  17. Common issue is the computers under the back seat get wet and cause havoc. Ensure the sun roof drains are clear
  18. Yo They are not hard to do. BMW gearboxes are quite light and easy to move around. I pulled one at Zebra last week and I could reach all the bolts from the ground. Main issue I find is they use 18mm bolts on the guibo and I don’t have a 18mm spanner. I got lucky last time and used a good quality adjustable. They also have a clip on top holding the gear linkage in place that can be a pain in the ass. not a major just annoying Go for the single mass flywheel. The weight difference is massive and it will rev much quicker. Less chance of failure in the future also. Some people report the gearbox becomes a little rattily after but this causes no issues I can recall hearing about. Im not sure about the fork and bearing @MM can you answer this? M33b35 is more your area of knowledge. E34 are a great car.
