Where is the second solenoid located? In the return line by chance?

If it's that ^ it should probably be left disconnected

Edit; we've had one of those stuck open because the banjo that holds it was over tightened, twisted up the bolt shaft and locked the plunger solid

Pull dizzy, turn one tooth, try again. Rotor should be pretty solidly pointing at #1. Remember, the plug fires at just before tdc. Hence BTDC
There should be timing marks on the crank, and cam gears, to get them lined up properly
