  1. Does the LVVTA not have enough power that the NZTA would listen if they told them to fix the general WoF VIRM?
  2. I'm looking for a single phase motor reversing switch/handle/knob. Something that has rev-off-forward positions The current switch setup on the lathe has one switch for on/off and a second switch for forward-n-reverse. I've seen them on old myfords and whatnot, so I know they exist. Motor is something like 2 kW Where can I find something locally?
  3. Fusible link wire near battery + terminal can get enough broken strands to exhibit this behaviour.
  4. Yes. Otherwise I have a 67 Anglia you could buy
  5. Could be a good excuse for a camping trip
  6. It's well known that dump scales read 50 kg higher on the way in than on the way out
  7. Stm pro looks like a nice piece of kit. But again, if the firmware isn't great you could be in for a harder than ideal time
  8. Nothing that I know of, I would just want something built a bit more robust
  9. Microsquirt works well enough, but is probably overpriced for what it is. The biggest drawbacks are that the fueling models incorporated in MS aren't really that great and take a lot of fiddling to get perfect If I were to do EFI again I would probably go for a Link Atom or maybe speeduino if it wasn't a daily driver
  10. How much power do you read with a dead stock 4age?
  11. When I bought the Hilux I took it for a front toe alignment. Guy was like "Yeah bro, fiddy bux" An hour and a half later of us attacking the tie rods with heat and hammers and all tools known to man the alignment was done. Tyres haven't worn out yet, so it must have been a goodun
  12. Why not use servomotors for the valve actuation? You probably don't even need a valve spring. Just 3d print a jig that can move from valve to valve and clamps on where the collet groove is. Just need to calibrate once with the dial gauge. Could also use the map value to control the vacuum with pwm. The vacuum motor is probably a universal motor and would run fine on DC.
  13. I can imagine you'd really struggle to put much power into the rear end on one of those. The diff ratio is something stupid like 2.26:1, so the driveshaft will already be under super high loads with just the factory engine
  14. Convert 4wd vitz into rwd for win
  15. Interesting, on the BZ Touring Corollas (as opposed to Carib) there is a little hatch that you can pull off in the wheel arch to let you see the marks with some level of ease
  16. For setting the timing, if you turn hard to the right you can get easy access to the timing mark through the wheel arch. Did you bridge T1 and E1 in the diagnosis port to lock out the timing for adjustment?

    best antifreeze

And as long as you keep the oxygen out, it shouldn't corrode for a right long time. Probably also helps to run the engine somewhat regularly so nothing stagnates in one place. Most new coolants are rated for like 7 years these days. Usually you would just do 30% coolant though?
  18. A lot of people use alternator belts for lifting engines. Somewhat amazing how strong they are. But yeah, I would stay away from those quick links. They look like the sort of thing that would deform under load and become impossible to unscrew.
  19. Magnesium extrusion container I designed has a safety factor of less than 2. Any more and it would have been unsafe to operate due to being too heavy. Had to use some pretty good tricks of engineering design to actually make it possible About 900 MPa on the liner wall
  20. If you want a thirsty car, get a Mazda b2600 with the G6 engine, 27 L/100 km, but dead reliable. No idea about the Mitsubishi engine ones of them though
  21. I've never experienced a car that went from looking perfect to being completely rusted out faster than a Mitsubishi Tredia. They say that by the time you can see the rust on them, it's too late
  22. Hilux is light duty enough that GL4 would be fine. I run Castrol VMX in mine, but would probably happily run anything that doesn't smell like sulphur. The owner manual for those Hiluxes does actually specify GL4 and GL5 though if I recall correctly.
  23. https://www.maxpeedingrods.com/product/toyota-yaris-echo-vitz-platz-belta-vios-1.5l-1nz-fe-140.8mm-connecting-rod-high-performance-4340-en24-h-beam-conrod.html $280 a set
  24. Gonna run maxspeedingrods connecting rods?
