  1. Solve all your problems with solid engine mounts
  2. Just get a spare bonnet from pick a part (preferably pink) and put a hektik scoop on it
  3. Pretty sure we didn't get NZ new Tercels/Caribs. That one up above may have just been an early import? Edit, looks like there was actually one model on offer in NZ https://www.redbook.co.nz/vehicle/specs.php?id=42111
  4. That's hydrochloric. Batteries take sulphuric
  5. I've never found silicone lube to provide any value in those environments, always dries out quickly
  6. Belt was supposed to go around the air con pump but that had locked up so someone just bypassed it
  7. Bit ling, but my old 4AGE corolla just had a belt from the crank to the power steering with no tensioners. Was pretty damn tight and never gave me any trouble in the 3 or so years I owned it
  8. Pistons in these are 75 mm diameter right? Can you get some measurements of the features. I wonder what could be achieved fitting 1NZ pistons and frankenrods into a 4K
  9. Looks like it would be perfectly at home in an rx7
  10. Looks like your linkage setup is completely different to the hilux
  11. Main things that affect how sloppy the gear selection is are the rubber bushings at the pivots and the pivot where the bellcrank (https://www.amayama.com/en/part/toyota/3353535100 ) rubs on this part (https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/toyota-japan/hilux/YN86/178284/chassis/3311/33711 ) I just turned up a sleeve for the bellcrank to reduce the clearance, no noticeable wear after a year and a half of use. There are a shit load of bushes to wear in the mechanism though, so it could well be worth doing everything. I'd imagine the shifts to be pretty precise once it's all done. It's a shame that the balljoint links are discontinued.
  12. Fixed it. The linkages have just worn to the point that the gear selection was too far towards the dash and the shifter couldn't move far enough I just adjusted one of the shifter rods to pull all the gears closer to the driver (red). Now shifts beautifully Just used a 24 mm socket to loosen the clamp nut and pulled the rod up about 10 mm
  13. Just don't bend anything when changing the bearings. My flatmate replaced bearings in his old simpson 5 years ago and bent the spider. Washing machine always shook like a bastard after that until it finally exploded.
  14. Just run a drill and tap down it. Maybe drill slightly oversize so the tap doesn't work too hard
  15. Hilux has developed a fault where reverse doesn't exist. Shifter feels like it is hitting a wall/lockout. If you try enough times it does eventually go in. No grinding or anything that would be associated with a grabbing clutch. All other gears select easily The link bushings are all relatively new. Has anyone on here had this problem before? Perhaps a sticky fifth gear lockout? Otherwise I'll start digging into it this evening.
  16. Your cars are just shit. If your car meets WoF standards and the inspector isn't trying to rip you off you won't fail. Even my shitbox Hilux passes every WoF or only fails on stuff that it deserves to fail on.
  17. I had no problem getting through cert with my new fuel line running next to the original one in the tunnel. No driveshaft hoops either. On the other side of the coin, my engine makes less power than a hive of bees
  18. Did you run over that oil filter a couple of times before putting it on?
  19. Might be worth trying to adjust the rack guide first and see if that makes a difference to the steering. But yeah, not having the clunking bush is lush. Except now all the interior rattles sound worse
  20. Toyota setups are just a pump hanging from a cradle with a little pot under them to hold a small reserve of fuel
