1. personally i wouldnt get the vehicle taken into a workshop etc saves yourself alot of coin unless getting something done requires the vehicle there i would get hold of driveshaft nz they are in church st in penrose and sunnybrae road in hillcrest north shore see what measurements they require etc give them it and take in old driveshaft and they could modified it perharps then put your new one in yourself would probly save about $200-$300 with your engine mounts i would talk to someone like TTT Automotive engineering or strange workshop see weather yours are a good design etc can make you new ones of same thing otherwise they make you different ones
2. So I ended up getting my new exhaust gasket just after Christmas And just ended up removing some of the exhaust studs that were too Short and put them back in the opposite side as someone had put them In on the long thread side. Got inlet and exhaust fitted up all sweet with some new washers And nuts Then I thought I would get some new studs for the inlet/carb Side along with some new nuts while waiting for Webber Specs to open up again for my new carb gasket as mine Had a torn in it and was missing the correct washers for it So I started with shortening up my new studs so they would Look nice and fit flush with the nuts etc Then February came around and I received my New gasket and then realised that I had not remembered That the new gasket came with some rubber washers and I had not allowed room on the studs for them so I fucked up And had to buy new studs again! Then this happened Now she's going and making Dort noises as it should! Also removed the rocker cover and Gave it a bit of a polish up
3. nice work on making the bracket for the pedal box but when all the dash is in how are you going to be able to bleed/topup the reservoir's as the dash will be inclosing that? could always remote locate them etc
4. nice score was this the one for sale in the RWD toyota page on facebook? good project to start from looking forward to the updates
5. Now to the cylinder head saga I sent my cylinder head to our local guy we use for a valve grind, plain and clean all sweet get a phone call later on and he tells me it needs a couple of exhaust valves as there burnt sweet get some calls later on i cant souce any mate what? have you tried STA parts? yup they got none dam So i gave STA parts a ring to just confirm this and nah we got some just need to get them off our supplier Okaaaay so i gave my engine guy a ring and told him what i had just been told and all that come out of his mouth was F*ck this F*ck that little young C*nt from there so now i know not to let the young fellow there serve me (although i think hes left now) so next morning the two valve's turn up and wtf there not exhaust valves there inlet so i ring them up and get them to send me exhaust valves now ive recived the right valves and its friday the day its meant to be out of the workshop and done the block still out all the bits are off it still no gearbox or radiator in and the cylinder head is still at the shop and not finished oops so that day i finish off cleaning and painting parts on the block and receive the cylinder head back all done. so theres as far as i got on D day
6. I thought i better stop being a slacker and update this thread It was only feb last year that i did some major work on it It needed the headgasket replaced as it was using and leaking coolent and general tidy up in the engine bay i had been putting back doing the head gasket for long enough as work etc untill my boss told me to take some time off as i had a few holiday days owing so why not do my headgasket right? then my boss offered for me to chuck it on the hoist and do it so deal was done basic headgasket to do and a week to do it easy job right nah bro! started off with just removing the head etc then thought why dont i do the noisy gearbox and leaking steering rack and rack bushes while im at it so i did that too then i had a closer look at the block and thought ahh it needs a good lick of paint but do i really need to do it fuck it lets make this a big job Things quickly escalated to a big job but owell also for some odd reason from factory the left hand engine mount bracket is white and the right hand one is black so i gave both a new lick of white paint also gave the block a lick of VHT black and sanded down all the other brackets and pulleys etc and painted them while i was at it now that was quite a long process in itself.
7. Everyone says they wear out the alternator bearings quick but they always say they had the belt overadjusted too And the ol 4K's dont seem to handle much boost just destroys them haha just get it for the noise!
8. Have also been thinking about chucking some Gilmore pulleys on this as well just for the noise http://www.endevourengineering.co.nz/4k-toyota-gilmer-drive-pulley-kit.6061-cnc-machined-billett-aluminiumthese-xidp223883.html Bit pricey but good quality so yeah Yeah nah ? //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49713-piazzanoobs-1981-toyota-starlet-discussion/
9. I had also started on repairing some of the rust in one one of the doors as they were a bit rusty Ended up with a couple of patches but had to stop as I couldn't figure out what was metal and what was bog As you can see in the photos these starlet doors contain 2 metal skins and from the factory they were not rust proofed between the two skins which when moisture attacks them it leaves a ugly mess like this So what I've done to fix this issue is to use only one skin of metal through the repairs to reduce the comeback of rust but using thicker panel steel to still keep the strength. So with those bits done I ended up sending my doors away to be sand blasted as my one at home couldn't remove the bog I got both right hand doors done And they ended up with less rust/holes that I thought they would have which is sweet So now there just sitting there waiting for me to finish the rest of the cutting and patching Thanks for reading Chuck some ideas and tips through here chaps //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49713-piazzanoobs-1981-toyota-starlet-discussion/
10. Update time Gave my headers a bit of a clean up not that you see them but they were rusty so why not Pulled out the grinder and chucked the wire wheel on it and gave it a wiz Gave the headers a lick of VHT black in the best conditions the back of the can could tell me 10pm at night in the cold starting to drizzle and using a torch to see what the hell I was painting And I'll keep thinking they turned out mint Seriously bro they ended up mint See mate there mint
11. my Piazza also gets this on the hatch glass very often
12. ive got no exp with that stuff but just wondering where did u get it from? im looking for some appears to good shit but apparently you can only get in 20L but idk
13. by looking at the photo of what you put up about the carpet it doesn't look too bad in the photo theres one thing you have to consider if you are going to get new carpet 1 being you are a young fella and me aswell both know once its legal your gonna go cruising with your mates etc and there going to eat and drink in the car and place there dirty shoes on your nice new carpet. All rounder the car doesn't look too bad of shape although i would advise a oil and filter change prior to the engine being started by looking at the oil filter and i would advise in investing in some fish oil or a similar product and go round and spray in the inside of doors rear gaurds anywhere that rust could start good luck with the project
14. Decided I better update this thread I haven't really done a lot on this regarding the rust repairs but I decided I would pull it apart a bit more So now my mission is to fix the exhaust leak it had from the manifold If you zoom into the picture you can see the big gap between the manifold and head Which reviled this big leak The reason that there was a exhaust leak was due to a buggered gasket manifold wasn't completely flat and that a couple of a exhaust studs weren't long enough to fit a flat washer on So while I was at it I gave the surfaces a good facing so there will be no more leaks Now I just need to get a couple of longer exhaust studs and a new inlet/exhaust gasket And get a carb to manifold rubber gasket from Webber specs
15. Also needing some radiator upgrade advice What other car radiator fits etc //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49713-piazzanoobs-1981-toyota-starlet-discussion/
16. Decided I would do some work to this and this had been bugging me since I've had the car that the rear brake drums were rusty which looked crap. So I started by jacking it up removing wheels etc and I managed to get the left rear drum off but the right hand one wouldn't have a bar of it I was smanging it as hard as I could with a big hammer with fully de adjusted brakes So with oldschool post for ideas Smanging it and heat was the answer So I ended up using a propane torch and a drift and a big hammer. Didn't get a photo of how bad they were before but I'm sure your imagination can paint a picture of them url=http://www.iforce.co.nz/View.aspx?i=ixk1acaf.kxy.jpeg]
17. So I ended up getting the drum off I blasted the shit out of it with the propane torch and no didnt get it red hot as not advised Ended up using a solid drift and hammer and smang dat while rotating the drum every couple of smangs And worked a treat Also find out it helps if you have someone to help you for some unknown reason. Cheers for the ideas guys!
18. Have been tapping it one the flat face Have sprayed crc on it also And handbrake is also off The drum is free spinning Have even been hitting it with a big sledge hammer I think heat might be the go aye
19. In my kp starlet I've been trying to get the brake drums off I've got the L/H side off by tapping it with the hammer took awhile though But the R/H one won't budge I've fully de adjusted the shoes tapped the hell out of it with a big hammer Tried hitting it from behind with a punch also. Although it does appear to be damaged around the locating hub which I think is what is stopping it from coming off.
20. My work uses advance auto electrical limited in penrose there mobile and have been good when we have used them unsure on pricing though There number is 09 634 1541 ask for rowan he's the owner
21. After looking at the door again I've decided it's a bit of a mission to fix as its double skin in areas So I pulled the rest of the doors off to check weather they are repairable as well and have decided I'll try and find some not so rusty front doors and will repair the rears With all the doors off what better way to go for a burn down the street and back right? Here's a pic of proof I did
22. Do you require a kit or is it just leaking from the o ring on the shaft going into the engine as it's quite common they leak
