  1. Everything I've read about the 1gr indicates the upper sump ads structural rigidity to the the block.
  2. Do you reckon you'll be compromising the strength offered by the factory upper sump by removing it, especially if your planning on revving to 10k? Unless you have some strengthening in mind.. I took a look at the sump on my 2wd 1gr hilux and it has the sump way forward, like 100mm past the timing cover, and it's 6ltr capacity. They also have the same bolt pattern as the 4gr.
  3. They're actually one of toyotas more reliable engines, but like anything if maintenance isn't keep up to date things go wrong. Anyway, soz for the spam @Roman
  4. As I say that two come up on the tard for $5.5k both with 250+km
  5. Shit, there ain't a lot of room under that block.. I'm a big fan of the 1gr as a transplant but the 7-9k price tag puts me off, for such a common motor.
  6. That's what is going to say, can only rev it to 7k tho... Unless a 4gr crank fits into a 2gr block.
  7. Ooff almost three years since the last post, time I guess for an update. She was all primed to do the mission to nats 20 in Raglan but as we know covid put paid to that. Last time I drove her legal was just after the first lockdown. My schedule was pretty much blocked with house reno's and the only time I actually spent on cars was moving them from the old house to mums (thanks mum) and a couple of blats around the the block (also re sleeving the zephyr clutch master and slave). It was being a cunt anyway as I couldn't get the cold start to work, and as you only get one shot per go the 3 or 4 times I did have a go resulted in me running down the battery before it would finally fire. Fast forward to last week and it's been about a year since I last tried and I had finally secured somewhere under cover to put it up here in the bay. Had to come down for a wedding so thought I'd stay the week, put it through a wof and see if I could get it ready to drive back up. Woken up a couple of times at 3am thinking about what the fuck it could be that is causing the hard starting and finally convinced myself that it was the injectors as the fuel system had never held pressure, then I started thinking (at 3am or course) that they'd probably flooded my sump with gas and fucked the engine. I rang nz efi straight away as I didn't want to be plagued with these issues whilst trying to get a WOF. Made a rush of it trying to get down to chch on a Friday arvo in holiday traffic so I could pull an injector and then drive into town before they shut to match a set. As luck would have it I had to start her to get her out of the tunnel house and she fired right up WTF!! Massive relief.. Next massive relief was failing the wof on just front tyres and a leaky front muffler. I had also woken at 3am compiling a long list of things she would fail on, both of those weren't on it. Big thanks to @CUL8R for hooking me up with falkens for the front, I went with a 55 profile as the old cracked 1990's toyo's were 50 series and had a way thinner sidewall than the rears. Also big thanks to @Hyperblade for hooking me up with John at Canary Automotive in woolston to fix the exhaust, he persuaded me in the end to do the full exhaust as mine was leeking from everywhere, I don't know how it wasn't condemned completely. Bit louder than I would like but at least it won't be an issue again. And also big thanks to @AALAWS for hooking me up with a front screen for an excellent price, didn't need it this wof but I should think that after nats the crack in my screen will have grown. And apart from raining twice (really fucken heavy after Murchison, great for a leaking classic)the drive up was flawless. Great..... Rain. Both girls were gagging to come in my car so we divvied up the drive with a stop in Murchison for ice cream.. And after a quick stop off at Alex and Hannah's in Marahau, made it up to the bay and parked it in the garage space I have. Having it on the trailer is good for two reasons, 1st being it means I have somewhere to put the trailer since my container is rammed, 2nd is that this garage floods with about 150mm of water so she's out of danger. Next update after nats or once Alex starts my rust repairs..
  8. John had the car today and ended up talking me into a new exhaust, the other one was cactus anyway and I'm surprised it didn't completely fail. I was waiting till I bang the turbo back on but that could be ages away.. He's a good bloke, recommend.
  9. All good bro thanks, its in at Canary Automotive as we speak.
  10. Re the pod filter, I got a k&n on for the mazda that had an angled sleeve..
  11. Ok bro cheers, do I name drop?
  12. Thanks fellas.. as per the gov, just gonna go to safe r, I used to use them as well and they're not far.
  13. Think I need a new muffler as well, but cheers. Is he an exhaust company?
  14. Hi chaps, anyone have hookups here in crimes for exhaust work? Failed my wof on a leaky front muffler and need repairs this week as I don't have the time. Any leads would be great. Cheers.
  15. Apparently 4agze injectors fit also.. If I could go to a modern injector that would be excellent.
  16. Morning gents, looking to replace the injectors on the 121, they're early low impedance mazda denso 195500-0285 blue tops 210cc (I think), where is a good place to buy replacements? Or does anyone have a good set of similar injectors? . I think 80's toyotas are the same. Cheers.
  17. I used to use Flemings, but last time I was there he was run off his feet and talking about packing it in.. He's out on Lowther st, Sockburn. Otherwise I use caraid on Duke St in town.
  18. So do I bro, I'll get there one day. Hopefully OS is still around.
  19. Please cut some stars for vents.. Or
  20. Yeah but better you find it now rather than down the track and really do damage..
  21. Yeah bro, fucking nice job. Maybe something to do with your end float/flywheel/rear seal? Or oil pump?
  22. Turn it into kefir, so much better for you than milk/yogurt.
