Karry on kamping Karamea - mtb/walk Heaphy track, campfires on beach sort of stuff. Sep 24/25

OK. Finally lets get something started. Shane and I have been discussing this for ages and not got around to doing anything. We have wanted to organise a OS camping meet over at Karamea. I'm thinking that with the distance involved it makes sense to have it as a two night thing so we can have max time on Sunday to recuperate, chill, ride, walk, drink, eat then campfire again on beach Sunday night to wind down. Or people can just come along for the one night. But it is a long long drive! :-)

No date set but thinking the weekend of the 24th/25th of September. The Heaphy track closes to bikes at the end of Sept.

We can camp at the Doc campground at the end of the road. Lovely area with lots of spaces under the trees on the beach to pitch tents. Saturday night BBQ  and campfire on the beach. There is a shelter at the car park for cooking etc and camping is tents/cars only. Its a great place to take kids too so those with sprogs - bring them along. I just reckon it would be sweet to see a load of old cars there and get some biking on sweet trails with fellow OS'rs and chat old car shit.

On the Sunday morning I'd be really keen to ride the Heaphy track through to the Heaphy hut (about 16km each way) and maybe beyond depending on weather etc. Other people could go walking on the track, the beach or go visit some local sights such as the Oparara walking tracks and archway

So discuss :-) Put your name down if keen. There are no costs but for food, petrol and doc camping fees each night.  There is no need to book- just an honesty box @ $6 a night :-)

Oh awesome! I never realised that. So it will be ideal for bringing the kids along too! I say bring the family and we make a weekend for all.

Mr Slacker Sam,  not so Slacker Jane...you need to be locked in for this one too then! The Heaphy track on that side seems pretty ideal for kids to try out.
