DB8-TypeR Posted August 4, 2017 Author Posted August 4, 2017 Fitted a 10" Dio rear wheel with 3.50-10 tyre. Tight squeeze, had to bend number plate a little and the tyre just touches the ground when on the stand. End result...... top speed of approx 70kp/h (goes well off the end of the 60kp/h speedo) 4 Quote
Raizer Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 3.50 is a tight enough fit on my Suzuki, good work getting it in the little Honda! 1 Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted August 4, 2017 Author Posted August 4, 2017 Its pretty worn, I think if it was brand new it might be more of an issue. If I decide to keep the raked look will replace with a 80/90-10 and a Honda Squash rear spring to level out the height. Will measure up the front tomorrow for you Quote
Raizer Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 No stress about the measurement, kinda gone a slightly different direction... /Still curious though, so what I wanted to know was if it's 95.5 max drum and if run a straight edge across the drum how deep in the drum is the speedo drive. Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted August 5, 2017 Author Posted August 5, 2017 Cant see a speedo drive in the wheel? Just a smooth empty drum. In other news it has developed an issue where the rear wheel is pretty well seized and the engine wont run. Can turn the drive belt by hand off the clutch housing and it freely cranks in the starter so engine doesnt appear seized (checked the oiling system and it seems to be working). Im suspecting (hoping for) a clutch issue, maybe it doesnt like the bigger rear wheel. Quote
Raizer Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 That doesn't sound good, I'd be whipping the wheel and clutch off and checking in the gearbox. That slot in the bearing cup is what turns the speedo drive. Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted August 5, 2017 Author Posted August 5, 2017 Ahh that makes sense, from top of drum to bottom of slot is 5mm. Seems to be a clutch issue, cannot freely spin the clutch bell like I think I should be able too. Rear wheels seems to be permanently engaged. I seem to recall stopping at an intersection and it kept wanting to drive off without any throttle input. Will see what I can do to get the clutch off without an impact gun or proper lock tool. Not a brake issue, have removed rear wheel an all looks good in there, motor spins freely and there is fresh oil in auto oiler system Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted August 7, 2017 Author Posted August 7, 2017 Found the issue, the large nut holding the clutch together had come off under the outer clutch bell thing. Now the carb seems to be stuck and its 4 stroking at anything above idle. Starting to show that it had been sitting unloved for a while. Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted August 23, 2017 Author Posted August 23, 2017 Sorted the main issues. Speedo is now very intermittent, sometimes it decides Im doing 20kp/h regardless of if Im moving or not, sometimes its pinned off the end of the gauge. Ive tested the hub and the gauge and both are fine so I suspect the cable is broken somewhere. Also the fuel gauge doesn't work, not the end of the world. But its out of the shed: And Ive riden it to work everyday so far this week Much faster than taking the car as I can cut through a pedestrian gate to get to the workshop and shave about 1km off the trip. Takes 2min from my driveway on the way, and 3min on the way home. 4 Quote
Raizer Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Which style fitting is on the hub end of the cable? I may have one you can have but Honda used a couple different fittings. Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted August 23, 2017 Author Posted August 23, 2017 The one thats retained with a screw through the side. Have a new one on the way along with some other little bits to keep it reliable 1 Quote
johnnyfive Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 plz join us in november, 50km/h is all it needs to do 2 Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted August 27, 2017 Author Posted August 27, 2017 Semi tempted, chaly currently does 0kp/h as I cant make it start. Dax is still in the garden shed in pieces and DJ could potentially make it. However..... at this stage Im locked into doing night shift cover on that weekend. Will try see if someone else can cover it 2 Quote

Or swapping for a rolling FR50 project?? 1 Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted September 14, 2017 Author Posted September 14, 2017 @Shakotom not at this stage sorry, have a plan for it and am currently accumulating bits 3 Quote
Shakotom Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Sweet as! Worth a try! Keen to see progress! 1 Quote
Popular Post DB8-TypeR Posted September 26, 2017 Author Popular Post Posted September 26, 2017 New stuff! Webike order with headlight/speedo combo for the dax (ali light housing not plastic like the Chaly one and a 140kph speedo.....), also some 110/80-10 Bridgestone Molas ML50 tyres for the 3.5" rims going on the Chaly Tyres looked quite skinny compared with the rims, its seated on one side of the rim. (Yes im assembling them on the dining room table, wife is out) Compared with the 3.00 -10 pirelli tyres it came on Looks sweet though, had to remove front guard is tyre is too wide. Also will need to trim the chain guard as that sits solidly on the tyre. If I went to a 4" wide rim Id have to shave the bracket that holds the rear drum in place and make a new bracket Now I just need to get it running reliably (thinking the coil may be a bit sad), get a new front guard that mounts differently for clearance and wire up the lights. May also lower it, it sits about right with me on it, just looks high when on the stand 12 Quote
Mop Head Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 My Chaly has 3.50s on it as is. The centre stand rubs the chain with standard shocks though so I’ve ordered another pair to sort that out. Though this probably explains why I haven’t front guard. Just ordered 3.50x10 white walls, and a front guard... so I guess this is where I see if it all actually fits. Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 ^ 3.50-10 is the factory size, same as what my Dax has. I have the Tanaka 3.5" wide rims on the Chaly which is causing the front guard issue. 2 Quote
DB8-TypeR Posted January 4, 2018 Author Posted January 4, 2018 So chaly is nearing "completion", just need to make the indicators work. Have some bits on the way for the Dax, have yet to decide what Im going to do engine wise This is the major bit on the way 4 Quote
