Seedy Al
Hey guys Currently have a 1984 ford capri here that has failed its revin on play in steering rack Anyone have some good advice on rebuilding these, tricks, advice, where to get parts etc? Most the play seems to be in the drivers side rack. I assume the passenger side has a nylon bush, with has the most minimal of play, but they have failed that also. rack is already full of grease, so no help there. can i adjust the play out of the drivers side by taking the plate off it and adjusting anything?? just to note, we are not talking rack ends here, but the rack it self thanks guys, keep up the good work
Valiant
If it's anything like an Escort there are shims that space the rack pad adjuster. Take the cover off and take a shim out, and recheck. There is a Nylon bush at the end of the passenger's side, I have got one off Ford in the past and Autolign *All this is based on a very old memory*
anglia4
Pretty sure there are shims as above, under the little cover at the end of the pinion. From memory of my 82 capri. Also, I once did the passenger side bushing on my mk1 escort and got the replacement part from palmside in chch I think.

Seedy Al
Yeah looked into palm side. Might suggest buying a new quick rack might be a better option
Seedy Al
Otherwise will pull tge rack and have a look into these shims. Next question. Strut tops. Do these have bearings in them on these? These ones are super bindy. Without pulling them out im not dure what's going on. Besides the spring bouncing along the top hat like it is now.
