diesel timing help

we chucked a rebuilt 5l-e hilux motor into the work truck today,it got a new cambelt aswell..

it fires up mint but is knocking, almost bottom end type noise..

could it be possible that the timing is out?

do you these pumps always time to tdc when the mark is on the timing mark?

ie: if the belt is off and someone decides to turn the d-pump round one turn before the belt is on, will this put the timing out?

(the pulley marker is meeting the front cover marker but pulley has been turned)...

i havent had much to do with diesels so not sure how these pumps and timing work...

does one full turn of the pump pulley do 1 squirt to all 4 injectors?

so the timing will be out?

how do you find the tdc at pot one on the pump?

there are timing marks for all 3 elements. crank pulley, camshaft pulley and injector pump pulley. should be an embossed triangle on the backing plate that lines up with the notch on the pulley at about 10 o'clock.

1 tooth out on injector will make it gutless

1 tooth out at the crank and it will sound like bigends or mains have spun

got to work this morning feeling rather deflated and pissed off..

took the cambelt cover off to have a gander...

fucking belt had jumped 2 teeth on the crank pulley!!!

changed it back, spun it over a fair bit, all good.

put it back together and shes running mint as....but fuck its gutless, useless non turbo diesel toyotas....

cheers for your help guys...

this was my first ever full 4cyl rebuild, thats gone further than a head gasket on a pushrod hemi...

stoked
