Escortn
Hey all, interested in setting up a electric fuel pump setup in the mk3 tina and just trying to get my head around it all (especially with the feed out the side of the tank, use of surge tanks, lift pumps etc) been sifting through google and the forums with no real luck. does anyone have any helpful links or pics/details of there own setups? cheers
Testament
are you still running a carburettor or are you adding fuel injection? presuming its still carby you wont need a surge tank or lift pump and it depends on the carb if you run a return line or not. you will need a fuel pressure regulator suitable for carb inlet pressures (0-12psi or something like that, but it depends on the carb) probably just get something like a facet pump or maybe one of the smallest cater or holley types (which will still be way way overkill on a cortina) anyway a carb type pump and not an efi roller cell type pump. other than that the pump should go close to the tank and
Escortn
cheers man, Its carby atm but am looking towards an efi setup/efi engine later in the future
sholdowa
The rolls solution would be to mount 2 facet red tops ( so you don't have to get out and hit it when one sticks ) in the boot, line to a filter king under the bonnet, then 3psi to the carb(s). That way if you go injection, you can replace/add the filter king with a surge tank, use the facet as a lift punp, and feed off from that with a high pressure pump. Hope that makes sense. peteretep
I would just put a low pressure fuel pump and a fuel reg in there for now, if you change to efi later, you can still use the low pressure pump to feed the surge tank. The best thing to make it easier to change over to efi and a high pressure pump would be to run the wires you need and fit the relays required, then when you change to efi just connect up the wires and mount the extra stuff
Escortn
Yea thats the idea i had goin, get it all ready so when i come round to it all the technical fuel pump stuff is done. This may be a stupid/obvious question but its early on a sunday and im at work, i wouldnt have to have the low pressure pump in tank would i? feeding an external from the tanks outlet would still work? peteretep
Nah it can be outside the tank although the lower the better, it doesn't matter so much with a facet pump as they are diaphragm so positive displacement which means good priming even from dry. Ie you could mount it in the boot somewhere if you wanted
J-W-G
I have a diagram and article form classic for regarding both carb and efi fuel systems i can scan it if youd like?
corrupt
I have converted my mk5 to an efi fuel setup during my efi conversion. I mounted it all on the platform in the boot just behind the rear seat. With 3 fuel lines(feed/return/overflow) coming through a hole in the floor which I cut above/to the drivers side of the fuel tank. I replaced all the standard plastic fuel line with 5/16 bundy tube so it is up to the task of efi fuel pressure. All of my set up is in the boot apart from the fuel lines. My setup is as follows: Fuel tank feed v Low pressure fuel filter v Holley Blue low pressure pump v Surge tank v VL efi pump v efi fuel filter v fuel rail v Adjustable fuel reg v Back to surge tank v Surge tank overflow into fuel tank return If I remember I will get some photos over the weekend... My name is Russell
I would just put a low pressure fuel pump and a fuel reg in there for now, if you change to efi later, you can still use the low pressure pump to feed the surge tank. So long as your lift pump flows more than your supply HP pump
