rednfast
Hiyas, The inlet valve on my escort mk2 1300 appears to be faulty. I did a comp test and No1 gets 90 psi, 2,3,4 all get 135ish. So pulled off the inlet manifold and the inlet is carboned up like the flame wall has been escaping into the inlet manifold from No 1 cylinder. I will pull off the head to confirm, but I want to know what I should look at doing? Replacing just the valves + springs for cylinder No 1? Or will that cause some issues? Should I replace them all at once? Also thanks to everyone who gave advice in my other post a few weeks back, this it seems was the issue. Rookie
You should get them all replaced with larger ones with a 3 angle hardened seat, that is if the seats haven't been replaced yet otherwise you could probably get away with doing just that one, entirely depends. glen
Time to step up to a 1600 ?
DJZ
Do you think it's a bent valve or is it jammed in the guide? I don't know much about Ford motors but I'm assuming it's push rod? Have you had the rocker cover off?
rednfast
@DJZ Yup its push rod, Ive had the cover off, didnt see anything wrong. Both in and ex valves move freely. @glen Not really fussed about 1600, had one before. This is just a round town car. @Rookie Ive heard about the hardened seats, isnt that due to the unleaded change over? Im 99% sure this one still has orig valve seats and valves. DJZ
Ah I see now. Burnt valve or damaged seat? It's still a fair amount of compression so it can't be that rooted? Can you see anything if you look down the port?
Llama
@DJZIve heard about the hardened seats, isnt that due to the unleaded change over? Im 99% sure this one still has orig valve seats and valves. Unleaded burns hotter than leaded, so older cars (like mine) tend to slowly weld bits of the valve to the wall, hence getting hardened inserts. Valiant
It's odd for an inlet valve to burn. Set your tappets. Profit?
bubblegoose
the lead is also a 'cushion'/lube for the valve seats so even an inlet will wear considerably faster with unleaded gas
