BS5620
I have a problem. I need my car about 20mm lower before cert time. I already have lowering springs in and dont want to buy new ones. Its in my mk1 cortina but mk2 escort front struts. The escort top hats have a raised top spring cup (red spring in pic) but im after a top spring cup that is flat (silver spring) The cortina one is 10mm to wide. I could use capri struts but trying to find these is very hard and I would have to sell my car just to afford them so want to keep the esky struts I have Im after a flat top spring hats that is about 135mm wide and flat. Any one have any ideas have an idea of what other spring cups that may be suitable?? Can be from any car type I went to the wreckers but he was pretty unhelpful!! GT_Escortina
Im not 100% on this. MK1 escort top hats are shorter than mk2s

UTERUS
Are the springs pretty captive? I would cut the spring to be 20mm lower if it still remains all captive and happy.
BS5620
^^ yeah have cut down original springs to just on captivity, but still no luck. Also the red lowering springs are just captive to, so this spring idea was the plan B
Bling
Wouldn't putting on a smaller top hat make them uncaptive then?
BS5620
nah i'll just chuck them on the lathe again to get them captive. I'm thinking of this so I dont have to have cutties!!
Bling
Fair enough, in your case i'd just chop them as UTERUS says, sorted. But since you don't want to, good luck finding tophats to suit.
crazy_rich
So you're running escort struts with a starlet steering rack? Whats your ackerman angle like? Have you run that past your certifier? In other news, I'm getting my capri's struts cut up in the next week or so to make them low, that might entail going to a 65id spring. If it does I'll get them to keep hold of the old spring seats. I'll keep you posted.
