Mk 2 cortina 5 speed conversion

I have a mk 2 cortina. Im trying to convert it from a 4 speed floor to a 5 speed floor. Big problems all the way through. What a cunt of a job. Especially converting clutch from hydraulic to cable. Nearly finished now. Motor and five speed in all running good as. Sat in cab and noticed huge vibration coming from somewhere. Found it to be the starter motor (now lower down and on opposite side of motor than before) sitting on steering rack. I need about 10 mm clearance that just isn't there. So options i thought would be modify steering rack or jack motor up somehow or get a smaller starter.. Does anyone know if you can get smaller replacement starter motors?

I run a honda starter out of a mid 80's honda civic. But i also run a 4speed.

So if the bolt pattern is the same on your 5speed box you could use one.

There's a small amount of machining needed on the starter and a adapter plate though.

And i also don't know how much smaller it is compared to your orginal. Maybe worth investigating.

My mk2 cortina 2l 5speed has similar probs if I dont use the correct starter. When building I had 5 starters. 4 were the same but one was around 30mm shorter giving me the clearance I needed. My mounts/positiong will be diff to yours tho as I used escort Crossmember and rack.
