mk2_escort
Im looking at fitting up a large alloy radiator in the escort now, as im running a pretty hot motor and the car will be used on the track. max dimentions are 650x420 so it is far bigger then the standard size. the one im bidding on is 70mm thick so what il be doing is removing the waterpump driven fan and use electric fans. what i need advice about is about cutting the metal box shoud so i can mount the radiator foward more to give more room for the fans. most of you will know what im on about, its nothing structural. just wondaring about the legal issues etc and what the cert guy will think. cheers

Gaz
Does 650mm wide even fit between the front two inner gaurds? Must be really close?? Also if you are talking the box at the bottom of the valance then I would'nt cut it. Not without putting a bit of box section back in. Is your engine moved back? If not then will you have trouble hitting the crank pulley? Im guessing this is why you want to remove the box part? Another note.. if racing you dont need that large a radiator as you'll have heaps of flow through it. Huge rad more for driving slow and stopped. Alot of the hard hard tuned rally and track boys will just use standard 1600 top and bottom tanks with 3 cores put in. Edit *whoops, just realised it was prob a mk2 escort
shizzl
youll neen to cut the battery tray off. if you dont have a styley pedal box youll have to get creative with the brake booster area. my radaiator is also 650 wide.
escorted
Its sweet as for track use but the cert/wof guys get upity about large chunks of car missing. I did it and they made me weld in strengthining bars

eke_zetec_RWD
say it was done fukn years ago before frontal impact laws came into force. thats wasnt long ago either. if your getting a cert then just do it mint and youl be sweet. iv cut the whole front out of my escort and am replacing it to suit my intercooler and radiator but will still be strong.
