NewGuy
Alright, well i have a WOF and my car is now legal to drive around. Yaya, I flushed the radiator out and the whole cooling system except the upper heater part, which i forgot about. Though the radiator had a big of brownish water at the very end of flushing it it was not to bad. A Small amount of crap i guess. I have been running with fresh water over the weekend, and will put coolant in sometime this week. Car did not boil over or leak out of the water pump seal all weekend, the temp needle sit just below half at speed and creeps up to just above half around town etc. Was just wondering what cooling fan i should fit? I want to keep her mega cool around town etc. These are the ones on the TM. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchR ... ype=Search I Do not know what size to go for? Do most of these just mount on to your radiator? If i was to fit one do i remove the current fan and belt? And the bracket system on the current fan? Also found that i can buy the 80Degrees thermostat at Repco. So i will maybe get one of them when i get my coolant and fit that and see if it makes my cooling better or worse. PLEASE HELP WITH THE ELECTRIC FAN IDEA Cheers

S-8Y
Use Redline WaterWetter instead of generic Anti-Freeze/Boil. You can get it at BNT (I know for sure, as they stock Redline). Its costs me around $20 for a bottle. I use it in all my vehicles and swear by it now! Check it out at: http://www.redlineoil.com/products_cool ... tegoryID=4 and make sure you watch the demo
d.p.n.s
if you get a electric fan just make sure its one that pulls air threw if not just swap it to the other side of the rad. if got a vl commodore and the cooling on them are shit so i put a 12" fan on took the old one off but had to leave the base and belt as it turns the water pump (just check if your does befor you move any belts) i first had the fan pushing air threw but when your driveing it was hitting the air head onand didnt cool that well so i tunred it around and it nevers goes above 1/4 of the way sitting in traffic flick it on and it stays so cool and then when your off driving turn it off as it will coolitself with the air flowing threw it. hope that helps. dan
Gaz
Ive tested 4 fans. Repco one, Supercheap one and two trademe types. The Supercheap one had the largest current draw and pushed the most air (by feel only). Id go with one of them. Size depends on what size you can fit. Obviously the larger the better. Size it up first. Ive always run my fan infront of the rad cause of space issues. Make sure you get the polarities around the right way so it is blowing thru the rad not away. Will usually be the red wire to earth and black to 12v. Dont you run any thermostat at the mo?

Gaz
Running a thermo is a good idea! lol. Run the lower temp one id say. My 88°c one from repco dont open till bout 98°! Maybe this is just allo themos or maybe my gauge is shit. Fans youll need to make mounting brackets to mount. DONT mount it through the rad.. very bad. Ask Zep! lol
mikuni
I've seen heaps mounted through the rad - mine is. Can they tear the fins out? You know you need to go around the vertical supports right?
CaMpylobacter
bugger that. will fracture the fins after a bit.

Ke36
mines mounted through the rad smae as my old hatch had 2 tens on it and they never smashed anything doesnt matter if a few fins get bent!
alfalfa
^^does boe, zep had his like that and it bent the fins, then tore the fins off the tubes, which meant new radiator edit: was mounted by cable tie, if you do it proper with plates and rivet then will be fine. As long as pressure isnt concentrated on one/two fins..
peteretep
the fan on the 7 came with zip ties and little pad things, and its a hardcore fan, must be the way you go about mounting or something. Just put that foam stuff in between
NewGuy
Ive talked to SprintParts in aussie hue race Dolomite Sprints, and they said that it will be fine, they use the supercheap fans on their daily spints which run normal sprint radiators, and he said they are fine, Don't bend the fins etc.
Gaz
Your choice. Why risk it tho when you can just make 4 little brackets. Wouldnt take over an hour or so and will never break.

Gaz
ummm just brackets.. they will be differant depending on ya set up. Three of mine ar just L shaped brackets I bent up with vice and hammer and the other is an L shaped bracket with a twist in it. Hole drilled eithier end and bolted to fan and body somewhere. Easy as and can be done with basic tools. Grinder, vice, hammer, file, drill. Previous ones on escort were some straight bits of metal with holes drilled and they went under the radiator bolts.. All depends what is easiest and what ya setup is like. If ya really want ill take pic of mine 2moro for a bit of an idea.
NewGuy
I understand gaz i think i read this wrong or something. Things im gunna try first is, get the right thermostat with this foot that blocks of this valve, and some of this waterwetter coolant. And tighten the fan belt and try get the torque converter on that tighter some how. Then if that fails ill try an electric fan.

Then if that fails ill try an electric fan. if you don't have the correct thermostat that closes the bypass off at teperature then you're pushing shit uphill to begin with. do that, and slip any type of decent coolant in and it'll be sweet. without that foot thing functioning properly, you're essentially jsut pumping the water around the block. only about 50% of it will circulate through the radiator itself. Gaz
I dont quite know what this foot thing is but in all the cases ive had a thermostat will make the car run hotter than without. Cars with no thermos often dont move of the cold section of meter. Id say if yours is getting hot wih no thermo then putting one in will be no better. Just reread ya first post tho and it doesnt seem you have a cooling problem at all? Just that you wanted to fit a fan... and a thermo since ya have none. Is that right?
