palmystar
How do i pull the doors off my escort panel van? Do i just push the pin of the hinge out or is it more complicated than that?

peteretep
i cant remember but do mk2's have bolts that you can undo to get the door off to keep the pin on? The pin is relatively hard to put back in
palmystar
No bolts. the hinges are welded on.
durty
knock the pin out as they have said can get a tool that pushes it out i think, have one at work, just use a centre punch
sholdowa
knock the pin out as they have said The problem can be that they wear with the hinges, which means that the door side wears one way, and the body side the other. This means you usually need an fbh and a punch to get them off. New pins can be hard to find but other models do fit. I just can't for the life of me remember which ones - some vauxhalls I think so a Holden Astra or similar maybe? Hopefully someone can remember
peteretep
could you not put some kind of bolt through there? On my car theyre taking the doors off, didnt seem too worried about it
mkcortina
this is the tool you want http://www.sulco.co.nz/Product?Action=View&Product_id=911 what i found the top pin was easy to get out but the bottom pin doesnt want to come out so i ended up rocking the door up and down till it broke hope this helps
Raizer
i cant remember but do mk2's have bolts that you can undo to get the door off to keep the pin on?The pin is relatively hard to put back in Some late MK2s have bolts in front of the a pillar, but yeah most are welded. O/T-ish but the easy way to check is look at the hinges on the door, and if the top hinge and bottom hinge are the same you have bolt on doors, if the top and bottom are opposites then you need to smack out the roll pins (gas torch helps a lot!!) QCADTA
If your pins are as rusted in as mine were its not much fun to get them out. Tried a hinge pin remover, no go, punch, no go, gas set, no go, so in the end there was enough room (just) to get a hacksaw blade in and cut them out, took a while but got my doors off! Good luck, hope you have more than i did, think ill be bolting them back on!
palmystar
Yeah they not wanting to come out. think i might cut them off and weld back on when the time comes. Will have another go at the pins first.
palmystar
On second thought maybe cutting off not a goos idea. Might be a cunt realligning them when putting bac on.
QCADTA
have you tried heating it with an oxy/acetylene set? or tried the 'hacksaw blade' option?
