J2Racing
I thinking of putting power steering into one of my capri projects. Has anyone done it before? I'm thinking a siera rack as I think there about the same size and tie rods should be the same taper(I hope) The car will be used for circut mainly so not worried about cert and wof. just needs to be strong. Looking at a VK holden power steer pump due to the remote mounting of the reservoir.
pies
a common pump to use is the sw20 one if you can find one. im not entirely sure about the reasoning behind it but its something to do with it having an electrical pump actually... that may be it fuck i need some sleep
J2Racing
Thanks for that I can get my hands on one but I'll stick with the holden due to it being mechanical and the car being a racer I'll have precous little electrical power. J2Racing
Thats cool racers are a strange beast. But that SW20 pump could come in handy.
sholdowa
For an alternative approach ( this for an escort ) try looking at http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=112018
J2Racing
thanks I think the capri is a little wider but this should be a step in the right direction.
Raizer
thanks I think the capri is a little wider but this should be a step in the right direction.Capri's are wider than escorts but why would that affect you from putting in that style powered steering colum? That kit is full electric and still uses your factory rack
J2Racing
I posted before I read the site. Your right the kit looks great. But same problem as the SW20 pump. It's electric

peteretep
it doesnt affect the rack though, sits on the steering column
nismo.capri
Why not just use a PS rack from a capri? ....can't find one I'd guess
sholdowa
cos it won't fit in my escort.
J2Racing
Why not just use a PS rack from a capri? ....can't find one I'd guess Power steer only came out in MK3 and don't think they where sold new here. which means there aint many here. so would rather not have to import one and find it doesn't fit. Fair enough too, talk to your local carpi club and have a nose at someones 2.8i. Here's a 2.8i rack at 10 quid in england http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ford-capri-2-8-po ... 0061145595
J2Racing
I realise 2.8i had ps I owned one many years back. I did not realise they where sold here. I thought they where only privately imported. I would try to get the info from the local club but when I was talking to the president of the club he had a mental, when I told him what I was doing. Seemed to think it was wrong to use a GXL shell for a race car. But it was ok for him to put injection on his 3.5 engine and a falcon 5speed. I'm afraid I wrote the club off. But if the track is the same the rack should fit.

MAD626
I am not sure but from a chat with someone else playing with a capri he had been told the power steering from a e30 bmw should bolt in. As I said not sure but could be worth checking out. There was a few of us standing round talking about this and one of the other guys knows heaps about bmws and he said that the e30 ps rack sounds the same as the capri one from how the capri guy described it. Hope my crazy ramble is of some help.
