Dicey
Hey i just got a turbo dash motor and the block is a bit fucked big lip and all ,I was wondering wat i shud do,hone it out and put oversized pistons in ,hone it out and just put the standards back in or try 2 find another block plus i was wondering if the dash block its different form a regular 2l 4g63t block from like a fwd sigma??? any help woud but a great cheers Dicey
fuel
As far as I know the DASH block itself is the same as any other turbo SOHC 4G63 - with two variants: the wideblock RWD for the Starion, and the narrowblock FWD for the Eterna HT. The main difference is the crankshaft, rods and pistons (which are same as the VR-4 4G63 16V beleive it or not) and of course the head and manifolds. If you are doing a full on rebuild and replacing the pistons anyway you might as well just bore it out and fit oversize pistons. You'll probably only have to bore it out 0.020" (0.5mm). What car is it going into just out of curiousity?
lowlancer
I thought only difference was wide vs narrow for the block itself, which is only the spacing of the top two gearbox bolts, isn't it?
fuel
Pretty much. DASH engines come in both wideblock and narrow block, depending if they are RWD Starion or FWD Eterna.
lowlancer
yeah, think you might have discussed a bit of this with me. Churr
Ogre
rock on the pistins and rods from the 4g63bt (vr4 engine), thats what most guys do isnt it?Makes its strong as hell
lowlancer
Like fuel said, the Dash pistons rods and crank are the same as VR4. If you had a non Dash motor, use either dash or VR4 above and have stronger stuff.
Dicey
its out of the fwd eterna ,the motor itself has a blown piston ring but ran a 14.8 down the 1/4 before it blew, not a bad find 4 2hundy bucks? its going in an ex lancer. lowlancer
Yeah man that's a good plan. other benefit is you can run the more common narrow gearbox with cable clutch. I've done the wideblock conversion so let me know what questions ya have and I'll try answer them
eke_zetec_RWD
hw many valve is the dash head? 12? if not 16 like a vr4 would the cut outs be in the wrong spot on the piston heads? or are they way off interference engines?
lowlancer
12 4 exhaust, 4 normal size inlet and 4 smaller inlet which kick in over 2500ish rpm via oil pressure solenoid. Should have checked, but I believe the exhaust valves are bigger diameter. Afaik, SOHC 4g63s are non interfenrance, but can't say for sure on Dash head. lowlancer
SHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I've been waiting for my time off next week to go rape that thing of everything I need!
fuel
DASH head is 12 valves. Yes it's strange the DASH has 16V pistons but that's how they were from the factory. The 8V 4G62/4G63 engines have cutouts for 3 valves for cylinder so it's nothing out of the ordinary. The DASH engine was pretty much the research and development engine for the VR-4 4G63 DOHC. The bottom end is the same anyway.
Speedyrr
Yep... Dished vr-4 pistons are the way to go, thats what was done to my engine in the GTO. Don't forget the import sigma's (I think) for the fwd sirius dash engine either
lowlancer
Hey Phil, question On my old loom/ecu it has a plug for oil control valve...Is that for the extra inlet valves? Kinda like VTEC? Cos if that;s how they work, I might see if my computer can be used as a VTEC style controller for them...
