Guest AbLaZ3
WELL, jus tried to drop my mates new engine into his mark 2 Cortina. it originally had a 1600 X-flow and hes putting in another modified 1600 X-flow. everything was out and we tried to put the engine back in with the g'box attacched and it seemd to go all good. then we got to replacing the bolts to the engine mounts and we thort wed hav no problem with it coz as far as i new the dimensions etc of the two engines were 100% the same (the new engine came form a escort sport). BUT, the mounts jus wont bolt back to the crossmember. we later found that the raised pieces of metal on the block of the engine with the 4 bolt holes which ataches to the mount, is about 5mm longer on the new engine than the old one and it just wont sit right. what have we done wrong? or is there really a difference between the two engines. we stumped. we wanted it running tonight
Toucan
As far as I know the blocks should be identical, including the positioning of the engine mounts Are they both 711M...AB blocks? (number is located near the top right on the exhaust side)
Gaz
711 or not they should be same mounts. You say they dont bolt to the crossmember? That part is slotted isnt it? How can it not mount to a slotted hole? Might need some pics.
Toucan
Yea I know mine was a bit hard to get both mounts to line up with the slots in the crossmember at the same time before it could be lowered, but it should fit...
Gaz
Check the engine isnt hitting anything underneither for any reason. Sometimes the rubber on the mounts go hard. Thatll make it a bit harder to get in.
peteretep
do you have the mounts on the right side?? one is slightly longer than the other I think

esky boi
do you have the mounts on the right side?? one is slightly longer than the other I think Yea check that.. But also, the x-member is tapered where the mounts bolt up to it, unbolt the mounts and move them down, that should bring them closer to the block. Hemi
how are you trying to do it ?? are u trying to put four bolts in or just the one through the rubber mount?? if your tyring to bolt four bolts up take it out and try doing it with the one big mount ...meth was trying to do the same thing with the 2ltr

Gaz
Twas awsome. Took ages to get the stupid thing in seeing it was a bare block with gearbox bolted on. Probably cause we lifted it in tho.
