Guest bluetom
The first muffler on my mk3 cortina has developed a leak where it connects to the piping running on to the rear muffler. I think i'll probably have to replace the muffler cos putty etc. would probably just come off when it flexs and it would have to be taken out anyway to get welded. I know i could just get pit stop to put in another standard one but what would the other options be? I'm kinda keen to get a slightly deeper noise. Still want it to be all legit tho. Any advice would be great.
peteretep
woolf mufflers should be able to help you, they do all coby stuff which should be alright for your car, they quoted 450 to do a whole system in my car (escort)
Guest bluetom
Thanks for the response I heard some people saying you had to have two proper mufflers or will do in the near future. I also understnad cobys don't qualify as a muffler or am i wrong?
thminiman
technically there a resonator
Guest bluetom
So legit to have one and a muffler? How will a resonator change the sound? don't want mine to sound like a jap import with a stupid exhaust system.
Gaz
Put a RPS muffler with decent sized inlet and outlet. If the rest of your system is done it will give you a nice deep noise on load but should idle nice and quite. They are around $250 each for a 2.5inch inlet/outlet one./
Guest bluetom
Is an RPS muffler the end muffler Like this; http://www.nzperformance.co.nz/store/index.php?cat_id=48 That muffler on mine is in perfect nic. It's the one half-way along the chassis that needs replacing. Thanks for the help though.
Gaz
Nope im talking about an RPS center muffler.
Guest bluetom
ok, sorry i worked out that RPS lke coby was a brand that produced all sorts exhaust parts. I haven't measure but I'm pretty sure my piping is all 2' it's all still standard. Do you reckon RPS centre muffler would still be good. Gaz
If its a standard mk3 cortina I doubt it will be two inch. But if it is I would definatly recomend one of the RPS mufflers. Some people will tell you differant. Thats just what I have found best out of coby, standard, RPS, Remus and Spintech. Supose its all personal preferance but I liked the sound of the RPS one the best.

Guest bluetom
Here's a pic of the leak. Anyone reckon it would be weldable? Don't have a welder, so would probably get pit stop or someone to weld it for me. (note to self; buy a welding machine!)
Toucan
I'd say thats not worth repairing. Replace it with a coby resonator is your best bet.
Hemi
i can weld so if i looked at that id do it myself but i might be better if u just replace it with something u want or such ...thatd take 5 mins for a pitstop guy to do if they anygood but itd just rust away/crack again ...ur call tho
Guest bluetom
I thought prehaps get him to weld it to pass the warrent. Then change it after a bit of saving. I'd say thats not worth repairing. Replace it with a coby resonator is your best bet. Is a coby resonator a legal replacement for the central muffler? Will it increase the noise alot? They're only like $70 or something aren't they? Toucan
I had a similar crack in the end muffler on my escort that completely broke in no time. The steel on the end of the muffler looked fixable but the inside of the muffler was pretty stuffed so I replaced it instead. If you go to coby they usually stock some second hand mufflers, otherwise a 14" one with a 2" inlet and exhaust is only about $70 as you said. Better than a repaired 20 odd year old one in the long run. Heres my system. From my 1600 xflow, extractors to 2" pipe (could be 2 1/8 or 2 1/4 I forget) and the 2 14" cobys with a bit of the same diameter stainless on the end to finish it off. Not droney or rudely loud but roars noticably louder than factory if your flooring it.
Guest bluetom
Coby resonator put in today, $54 for them to put it in, decide i need to get a welder. Sounds good, just as i wante, quite untill you let rip a bit
