jaymz
I brought a Mk1 escort for a project and it's already been pulled to bits, Im not sure if the front end was upgraded for the 2L or not? How can i tell the difference between the 1300 escort shocks to the capri or cortina front shocks? cheers james
Gaz
The actual 1300 strut and the 1600 strut is the same apart from mk1/2. The sport, ghia or capri discs will be bigger than escort ones. Or if the discs are vented then they most likely are capri. measure the disk diameter. For the springs you may want to put a slightly heavier weight spring in because the engine will be abit heavier. Up to you.
jaymz
Oh sweet. So it's only the heaver springs that need to be changed. Cheers mate
Gaz
You dont even really need to change them. Your car will go slightly lower in the front because the 2l is heavier than the crossflow engines. Depends on what you like.
jaymz
It will handle unco if you just leave the escort springs in though aye.
Gaz
Wouldnt think so. its not that much heavier. Just lower the back also. It might be a bit more bouncy up front. I changed mine but only because i went to adjustables and could choose spring rate.,
Eskorted
super low kingies do a good job.. even if you didnt want to lower it. get standard hight kings they will be abit stiffer.
jaymz
Ha anybody actually done this themselves or just talking from what they have "heard". Because If it's bouncy at the front then i don't want that I am rebuilding the car so I don't mind spending a bit on the suspension if I know it's going to ride well. I will proberlly lower it by 2 inches
Gaz
At the mo I have 2l in mine with adjustable suspension. the springs in the setup are 10inch long, 2 and a quarter internal diameter and are suposed to be 160lbs rate. They are way way to hard. I would suggest 120-140lbs if you are going that far into it.
Gaz
I am rebuilding the car so I don't mind spending a bit on the suspension if I know it's going to ride well. I will proberlly lower it by 2 inches If you dont mind spending some coin get some new shocks from repco or wherever. Buy some new RS2000 springs from here https://www.burtonpower.com They are rs2000 springs and are 145lbs. Now also get the rear leafs reset with maybe an extra leaf and new rear shocks. You also have to remember that better handling is going to come with a harder ride than standard. I gues what I am trying to say is that a suspension upgrade is not absolutly needed but if you did want to upgrade then the above would be the best choice really. excort
hey has anyone ever used sierra struts in a escort ?? i was told they bolt in to mk2 escorts trying to see if its worth lookin in to ?
RT
no you can't use sierra struts... the offset is way wrong and they are completely different.
Gaz
You could still use them, with a few mods. Also would want to goto bigger discs at same time so that you could change the offset. Why do it tho?
