  1. I've just run into some problems with the standard carb on my mk1 cortina. So now i've got a good excuse to UPGRADE, any suggestions? I'm keeping an eye out on trade me as always for side drafts but does anyone know of some other places to look also?
  2. he's a few pictures just to make this a litlle bit more exciting for you readers, one day i'll hunt down the rest of my pictures of car in bit's etc
  3. well havn't done to much on it, just been fixing it to get it's warrent, brakes seized and there was play in the steering box, and the fuel tanks has a leak, I mixed up a bit of steel putty and tried to patch the hole in the fuel tank. That didn't work, steering is fine was just a few loose bolts and for the brakes they were a piece of piss to just put new cylinders in the rear, So all i've gotta do now is decide weather to get the tank fixed or make a new 1, kinda wanna put a bigger tank in for when i fwork on the engine, if any1 can give me sum advise on fuel tanks pm me
  4. Thought Il'd do a bit on my car, why not hahaha, Brought it stock as, hitched down to taurange to pick it up, It's stock as running a 1500 pre cross flow, 4 speed collum change, only thing that has been done is disc's in the front. Begining of september I got a mate to make me some new carpets, real nice black ones so much better than the crappy job the previous owner did. Failed my wof cause of "play in steering box" and rear right wheel is jamed. Put new brake cylinder in the back, bleed the brakes now she's sweet, well i thought she was sweet, but apparently they are weaker on the right side(still seams to stop fine), so that's what i've gotta sort out this week. And as for the steering box, it was just those fags at grey lynn vtnz, they are to use to doing late model european cars, westgate didn't think there was a problem with it, saves me having to do a rick and pinot yet. well that's it for now, i'll work out how to do picture one day and put some up
  5. I'll be keen to go up to the show. I'm from taupo be stoked if i can catch a ride up with someone. My car's in bit's no way it'll be ready this year. but i'm always keen for kumu or how ever you spell it
  6. I'm just cleaning out my engine bay. I don't want any un neccasary things in the engine bay. ie. battery. I have got a spot weld drill bit and have been drilling for quite a while and can't see much progress. Do I just keep percevering or is there some knack to it. I'm fixing the car up to show standard so i dont wanna just hack it off with a grinder.

    underseal??!!!

how many of you have takin the underseal off your cars? whats the best way? I've heard there's no easy way, but surely there are better ways to do it then others
  8. my girlfriend has a 1980 gemini wagon 2 door. just wondering if anyone knows any good engine swaps that arn't to much of a mission. Her engine is stuffed and were just trying to work out the best way to get it running mint again. ps. were not interested in rotoring it
  9. i could be keen just moved to taupo, my mk2 esky's pretty rough at the moment. driveable though just looks like crap. And i need to find a good garage or shed to put my mk1 in. It's getting a full rebuild. no of anywhere
  10. Ha anybody actually done this themselves or just talking from what they have "heard". Because If it's bouncy at the front then i don't want that I am rebuilding the car so I don't mind spending a bit on the suspension if I know it's going to ride well. I will proberlly lower it by 2 inches

    Part numbers

yeah that's the problem repco are useless they always without a doubt give me the wrong parts. And there service is crap as. So I use partsmaster now. And the dude on the phone said get a part number so they don't get it wrong

    Part numbers

Has anyone changed there front lower ball joints on there mk2 escort. and the rear brake hose, flexible one. I failed a wof and i need the part numbers so partsmaster can get the right parts. so does anyone know what they are
  13. It will handle unco if you just leave the escort springs in though aye.
  14. Oh sweet. So it's only the heaver springs that need to be changed. Cheers mate
  15. I brought a Mk1 escort for a project and it's already been pulled to bits, Im not sure if the front end was upgraded for the 2L or not? How can i tell the difference between the 1300 escort shocks to the capri or cortina front shocks? cheers james

    Cut and Polish

yea theres a bit of over spray, What cut and polish did you use? I has hopeing to get it done by the hotrod show just cause it gave a good time to work to but it looks like that's not happening anymore.

    Cut and Polish

I just painted my mk2 escort with a metallic blue (acrylic laquer) It cam up pretty blotchy at first then buy the next coat it came even. then I Clear coated it and it came up blotchy again. I had to take it out of the shed because i needed the shed so it is only half done. I Think i'll proberlly paint it again with a couple more coats of color. It's not very shinny Either. I have heard that you have to cut and polish laquer to get it to shine. any thought's on this? ps is anyone going to the hotrod show this weekend
  18. yeah i don't know how to load pics on here so i can't do that, but it's rusted along the seam and around where the lights fit in thre's quite a bit of steal missing around the back left tail lights, does any one know if tyhe front doors of a 4 door fit on a 2 door?
  19. I just brought a mk1 to fix up it's got a really bad rusty back panel where the tail lights are, Mines a 2 door can i cut out a 4 door rear panel and weld it on my car?
  20. what kind of trouble will i run into? I just tightned it with a socket set and tightened it till the spring washers were pretty much flat and i've done about 600 k's since and nothings fallen off
  21. yeah my diff bolts came loose inside my diff head and jammed up the crownwheel so i got a new diff from the wreckers but the drive shaft didn't fit so after a lot of mucking around i canged the pinion flange i think it's called over from my original head to the new one, but on trade me i found a single peice drive shaft that i want but i don't know wether it will fit
  22. Hi i was just wondering if anyone knows how many different sizes there are for the flange that bolts the drive shaft to the diff, my cortina one is 80mm from centre to centre digagonal and my escort dive shaft is in the car so i don't know. any help? cheers
  23. getting them back in is easy you just push them in till there tight then give them a bit of a whack with a 60 oz hammer
  24. yeah I had some trouble with mine too i couldn't get the nuts to do up tight enough on the slide hammer so they kept flying off when i pulled the hammer. just keep trying it'll work. You don't happen to want a new rear axle? it's from a mk2 cort i've it fits a escort but i got told that it's not such a good idea but if your keen let me know
  25. I blew my diff in my mk2 esky the other day. When i went to the wreckers he said yeah mk2 cort straight swap. yeah it was the same length but..the locator holes in the cort diff where to small so i had to get them drilled out. put the diff in and went to conect up the brakes screws a different size to conect the flex hose to the steel one easy enough take the steel pipe of the original diff. one last thing, conect the drive shaft up. oh oh. it doesn't fit. back to the wreckers to get a cort drive shaft and swap the flages over and then bolt the drive shaft to the diff. wow so much for a straight swap. But atleast now i have bigger brakes a recond diff and lowered and heaps better ratio and a car that goes i'll let you know how fast it goes next week
