1600 Sport Rebuild

Guest Sub

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Just about to start looking for parts to rebuild my standard 1600 sport engine. It needs to be road legal. I have already got a pair of 40mm side draught dellorto carbs.I heard that putting 1300 pistons in is a good move to raise compression. Also i thought about a mild cam. Just looking to see if anyone can recommend a cam and maybe other (cheap) upgrades while i have the engine out.

if u r doin the cam it is best 2 do things like rockers, vavle springs, guides, retainers and port and polish the head aswell as extracters etc..... to get the best effect from it. u wont get huge gains if u do the cam by itself. not saying its a bad move but u will be better off if u save and do this all in 1 go if on a budget etc... (some people dont have this problem :lol: )

sport engine will already have extractors, and will have a mild cam.. i think about fastroad spec, similar or close to the likes of a bcf2.. that or a bcf3 cam would be ones to go for.. or a a2/a3 cos cam.. not too sure as i stuck with the standard cam in my sport..

dont worry about it not being road legal.. would have to do some serious shit to make it not legal.. or just botch the exhaust lol

carb should be a 32/36dgav.. good carb.. could go up to a 40/40 off the likes of a capri, or go the sidedraught route. just remember when playing with these carbs and a bigger cam its gonna start getting worse for everyday road use.. unless ya like ya car like that

1300 high compression pistons are a good way to raise comp.. gotta make sure theyre from the HC 1300 though as the lower compression 1300 wont be helping you much. 1100s are even better.

well.. rust and shit is done. was spose to get cert/warrant yesterday but the certer bitched about driveshaft bolts, so they were got in today and replaced, and then the certer decides to change his mind on letting the wheels go. so now hes said no to certing the wheels. which means nothing at all.

theyre 13x fucken 6s. or well, aparently theyre actually 5.5s! but no, aparently the standard escort studs are too short. plenty of escorts out there with spitties on but no, hes deciding not to cert these..

so now.. options... either get my van to palmy (which is very sick at the moment.. will not make it) or take my supalites up there and hope theyre ok. or get the hubs restudded.. which aparently isnt an option for about 3weeks in palmy. so i dunno what the fucks happening.

yeah.. i mean i have no idea whats in restudding a hub.. but fuck how long can it take..

brother works at tonys tyres.. he said they could do them but not for 3 weeks.. and aparently not there, so im guessing at fortec, they would have to order studs from the states.. W T F

Thats crazy man, my escorts running 13x6 and i have no problem with the standard studs, infact i had to replace some of mine but my mechanic never said anything about needing longer studs.

Yea you have to remove the drums to do it on a escort, it should take a day, max to do it

you need longer studs, i just replaced all of mine, front you need to take the whole hub off because the longer ones hit the disks, try ringing davies holden in auckland, they import all of that stuff and thats where I got mine from, tooks ages to find ones the fitted though
