atropine
depends on what ya want.. lsd or not for a start? and then theres ratio choices..
Toucan
Yea depends on what you want. 4.1s came out in the vans an 1100s i think, they will give you quick get up an go 3.89s or something are in your common 4dr or non sports i think 3.54s are found in sports and ghias, get this if you have a 4spd and want the ability to cruise at 100kms at lower revs Dunno much about non escort diffs myself

atropine
my belief was the 4.1 was the common one for most 4drs.. since youve got a 5spd.. a 4.11:1 aint a bad option.. generally better pickup than a 3.54..

Toucan
Hmm yea atro might be right I was just going by what I read in the manual ages ago, that would explain my high revs at 100 and good pick up haha. Is there any way of telling by looking at the diff? Edit: Looking at the manual, it goes by engine not by number of doors, who would of guessed 1100 sedans had 4.125s 1100 vans had 4.125 or 4.44 1300 LC had 3.89 1300 HC had either 3.89 or a 4.44 or a 4.125 for the van 1300 sport had a 4.125 1300 heavy duty from a van had a 4.125 1600 sport had a 3.

peteretep
a guy i know who has a race escort runs a 4.1, he has run most ratios and a lsd falcon diff but he said that the 4.1 is the best and that a falcon diff is too heavy and probably excessive anyway
atropine
my dads old mk1 had a 5.1:1 atlas diff.. mwhahahaa
excort
hey thanks for all the info guys so you reacon i should just stick with the dif i have? i think a falcon dif would be going abit overboard lol would it be posible to get a lsd head out of something and put it in mine ? Leebo3
When i had the 5 spd in my car with 4.1 diff i was doing 3 thousand RPM at 100 ish k's, with the 4 speed and 3.54 i do 3200 at a hundy. On a 1600. Just some useless info.

Toucan
Ok I've managed to confuse myself... I thought to work out your diff ratio, you jack the car up and turn the driveshaft, and the wheel would do one revolution for say 3.89 turns, meaning that you had a 3.89:1 ratio diff... Cause i just did that, put a mark on both the driveshaft and the tyre an I got exactly two turns of the driveshaft would make one turn of the wheel, meaning I have a 2:1 ratio diff, which cannot be right Can someone please explain for me
