mk1/mk2 brake disks

so.. im thinking of dropping some 1600 mk2 disks onto my mk1 providing they are slightly larger diameter than the old mk1s.

they should bolt straight up right? is there much diff between mk1/mk2 callipers? are the 1600 disks/callipers that much better to put in?

yea but im pretty sure sports had type 49 shells too, just a bit crappier than a mexico engine wise

i heard they had type48 shells which was 49 but with less streanthening, ie arount the stut tops. there was a discussion on trademe ages ago and i remember cos i was real interested if the shell was a 49. but yea, anyone else? :?

From what I remember only the early 1100 MK1s had drum fronts. I think the MK2 calipers have got bigger pistons like the M16 calipers we used for rallying. The M16s could be spaced for vented rotors. You could buy the venteds as a PLus Performance part and they came with spacers to suit.

Telstar rotors are quite a good option and if you want to go 4 pot then the alloy RX7s are a hell of a lot lighter than ones like the Austin Princess had which some people use.

For the rear, we used to use the Consul 315 all cast 9" drums but I guess they're rocking horse droppings now. You had to have the longer wheel studs to go with them. I think the MK2 vans have 9" drums as well.

do the discs unbolt from the hub on a esky like they do on a corty? cause iv got some mk3 corty discs a nd calipers free if ya want em ivan.

only rs escorts came with disks front so your disks have probably been changed to mk2 at some point without you knowing thus they are the same size, mk1 escorts came standard with 4 wheel drums

nah ay, they came with both disks and drums. i have a manual (brown-greeny one with the mk2 cortina headlight zoomed in on the cover) which has both mk1 breakdowns in disks and drums.

i tried to space some mk3 corty calipers for the toyota venteds on my corty but they fouled the back of the stud face. how thick were the venteds u used? i ended up geting some volvo 4 spots they bolted on and work great even with no booster

Off topic, but can a mk1 escort axle go onto a mk2?

considering they have the same floorpan/monocoque shell i dont see why not. how ever the early mk1s had a differnt rear shock angle (45degree i think) as the later ones but i think the axle should be the same.

anyone correct me if im wrong. :D

speaking of brakes will i have to get bigger brakes if i get a 2l? praobly good jsut to get better brakes anyway right? as i valready brought new brake pads for a wof so should b fun to play with if i get rid of the old rear drums (1300 ghia) <--- not sure if its classed as not on topic so jsut tell me if im not ill change it cause i didnt really wanna make a new topic about it
